Hi
Has anyone experienced a watch case come apart from the bezel? Basically the whole movement came out of the bezel/lugs.
This happened with my JD Grand Seconde whilst i was wearing it and it nearly fell off, the only support was the crown/winding stem which held the case intact.
I have sent it to an authorised repair centre so they can analyse it, would this fall under the category of manufacture defect?
any thoughts welcome
regards
JSC
Hi mkt33
thanks for your comments
i am the original owner and have had the watch just over 2 yrs so the warranty has most likely expired
the model i have is the ceramic version
i should get a response in 7 days, first hopefully to explain the issue of why the watch fell apart and secondly if they intend to repair regardless of warranty expiry. I will pass on any findings to this forum
I would have thought JD watches given their price, would last longer than a few years
my initial feeling is that it could be something as simple as the glue holding the case to the bezel may have deteriorated, but im untrained in these matters
again, my concern is that should an accident occur, which is beyond my control, where the whole watch is broken then its completely irreplaceable as i have a numbered limited edition

hi mkt33 and gav
thanks for the responses and link to information about the same issue which you experienced earlier
not sure what to expect since my watch is out of warranty by a few months
I will update with resolution hopefully by early next week

Hi Gavin
Glad to hear JD fixed the problem, did they explain what they did to resolve and are you cautious that the same problem may arise again?
Im still waiting to hear back from my AD/repair centre

Latest update on my broken JD grande seconde ceramic
Finally received response from JD via my local AD after nearly 3 months of waiting
Only response from JD is that I have to pay 1000 USD for essential/mandatory maintenance that would cover the issue of watch falling apart, plus they suggest to cough up another 1000 USD to service the crown and buckle. Which to me seems a bit unreasonable
No explanation or apology at all from them as to why it happened. Am being charged for services as if I have caused the problem and not because of an obvious manufacturing/design defect
Will send in my (expired) warranty in case they can show some good will
Gav, what number was your edition? mine is 88. How much did you get charged to fix this?

imho the quotes provided by J*D are outrageous.
The complete service...ok I understand (expensive for a time only watch but you are stuck given the nature of the problem)
But the crown and buckle prices are out of norms...IIRC, the crown and buckle are plated stainless steel, not ceramic. I've never had a service where the crown was replaced nor the buckle, especially for an automatic movement where the crown was hardly ever used...if there was damage to the keyless works, that should be explained to you.
Your AD should be your advocate. I'd also be sending emails to your local J*D agent as well.
You should keep posting updates here, if you are asking for GAV you should try the PM function.
Best, Mike
just a quick update
spoke to one of the customer service managers direct at J*D in Switzerland back in October and they agreed to do the repair free of charge only in conjunction with going ahead with "essential servicing" package
one strange thing is that they had no record of my purchase from AD in Singapore in 2011 when I tried to get them to fix the problem under warranty, but they said it had been purchased (I assume by AD) 3 yrs earlier in 2008
am hoping they will have it ready by Christmas!!
