The IWC pilot shouldn't have qualify based on design as the look of the watch was of military requirement. Many company offer the same model with the same look at the same era.
For my humble opinion if were to choose a watch from IWC the portofino moonphase would be a better example.

Hmmmm Potofino Moonphase!
If not Iconic, certainly one of the finest examples of the moonphase complications! I was immune to the charm of Roman numerals--until my eyes fell on this model. Even the hands are well chosen. At a minimum, an iconic IWC watch, up there with the Portuguese and the Ingenieur.
