When Magnus was at the Blancpain forum:

I lost the screw of a X71 bracelet (something as easy to get as a 3 dollar bill, here where I live), I posted a question on the forum.

In absolutely no time, by mail I got a Blancpain envelope with a set of screws.

Dear Dr Bosse,

In 2005 I acquired  a Chronometre a Resonance from Montres Journe sincerely believing I would become the proud owner of a master piece.

What a disappointment! Three years later the winding crown fell off and after encountering many difficulties the dealer I bought it from had to bear the costs of the repair.

Now, the winding crown fell off again and all I am offered is to repair it for the second time and to be charged.

For a watch with such pretentions and a respectable price tag I find the attitude of Mr Journe quite strange.

You would agree with me that the least he could do is to offer me a new watch as it is obvious that this specimen is faulty to use a mild terminology. From a man known as being an artist proud of his creations and rightly so , his attitude is very disappointing.

I wonder if you could bring the matter to his personal attention.

I partly see this from a different perspective.

Sure, a crown is a 'standard' part for any watch. Certainly, it can fall off (and this happened also to one of my watches). Rightfully, one is particularly embarrassed if this happens with such a highly acclaimed piece as your Journe.

That said, I personally find it to be acceptable (and common practice) in such a case that the manufacturer offers to have the watch repaired. I do not see a reason to have the watch exchanged because a minor part (minor in the sense that failure of this part does not imply that the entire watch is defective or does not meet standards) fails.

I do not know the pre-history of this case nor do I have insights into the standard service practice at Montres Journe so I abstain from commenting on the financial arrangements. Also, I do not know to what extent Mr Journe himself was involved.

Did you discuss the matter with Brad Schwartz (bs22fly), moderator of the Journe forum, first?
