how Swatch, Seiko, and Miyota feel about this statement -
"To make a watch that is reliably the most accurate and durable mechanical watch in the world is much more difficult, and Rolex is the absolute owner of that distinction. "
TM
the ETA 2892, 2824, and various Seiko and Miyota "high grade" movements.
Not "high grade" as in chi chi nice movement finishing wow that looks beautiful, but rather high grade as in
reliable
stable
well adjusted
I doubt Seiko, ETA/Swatch, or Miyota have conceded anything to Rolex or anyone else in these aspects.

Rolex has a certain aura...and for me personally, i have never been a big fan. but every 2 years so so, when i tire of all the complications and "fashion" horological pieces that i have acquired, i go back to collecting what i think is basic goodness...rolex,, omega speedies and pams, and that cycle has just started...again. and this time its worse then i thought...going back to 70s rolexes n omegas, which i humbly opined that i am prob looking back at time when there is less marketing focused approach to watch retailing/making.
Hi, Narsi,
I'd love to read your own take on the question(s) you raised.
Do you think they should, or are you asking why everyone else does, or are you asking why watch nuts have so much more money than sense?
;-)

I have no insight into Rolex's inner workings, so can only speculate, but I think they quietly put their money into R&D to improve their watches from the inside out. Watches like the Submariner can arguably be considered design icons. Say the words "expensive watch" to 100 people on the street and see how many respond "Rolex." I think many would. That kind of brand awareness can be both a blessing and a curse. In my opinion, Rolexes are sturdy, handsome watches, that reliably fulfill every basic need one has for a wristwatch that tells time. Do I think that Rolex could execute all the complications listed in your post if that is what they desired. Yes. The question is:
Why should they?
For the glory of watchmaking? To impress a relatively small percentage of wristwatch wearers (WIS who have the knowledge and the money to seek and buy a high complication watch.)? If Rolex made an Equation of Time- Perpetual Calendar-Grand Sonnerie-Retrograde-Power Reserve-Skeleton-Jumping Hour watch would people buy it? Or would people dismiss this Rolex high complication watch as an example of a company famous for toolwatches trying to dip their toes into the deep end of a pool that they don't have enough cachet or history to play in?
Sometimes I just feel like Rolex is damned if they do, damned if they don't.
Best,
Daos
Just calling it like I see it. The beauty of this hobby is that there is something for everyone.
Hope you are keeping well.
Cheers,

Would I be interested to see Rolex's take on an alarm or some other complication? Naturally. As a watch lover, it is always great to see something you've never seen before. However, I think Rolex will continue to find success regardless of whether they create such complications or not.
Cheers,
Daos
