I like German made watches.
There is no denying,I have a soft spot for German watches : the solidity,the design language and the seriousness of the products !
A German watch collection without a historical inspired Flieger : unthinkable!
On top,Germany is my neighbour country,I worked a few years over there and I speak the language !!
Over time,quite a few German watches made their way into my collection : from precious metal high horology to small artisanal brands and very affordable (but well made) pieces.
Let's have a closer look :
Torn between Stowa and Laco I finally went with the latter because of the full customization possibilities that Laco offers for the Flieger Pro series.
Still thinking about adding a Stowa Marine watch.

I purchased these 2 pieces when Lange was still widely available : nowadays I feel that Lange is too much Richemont !

I had the possibility to visit them a few years ago and was positively surprised by the very high integration of the manufacture which puts many other brands into shame.
Quite a few excellent small artisanal brands are located in Germany : Dornblüth,Hentschel,Kudoke ...and Benzinger.

I fell in love with the incredible artisanal qualities from Jochen Benzinger's watches whom I also could visit a while ago .
The skeleton pieces may not be for everyone but I love them : all done by hand,no CNC machines !!
Of course Jochen Benzinger also does more traditional watches which celebrate the art of hand-cut guilloche.
Another small not widely known artisanal brand is Tourby located near Dortmund.

They work mainly with highly reworked and refined Unitas movements : top quality for a very fair price !!

Beautiful shots and well said! German watches are my favorite, too! I visited Glashütte Original once, they are very modest and friendly over there in Glashutte.
I got my first german chrono when i was 6 or so (my granddad always had one in the shelf). I would love to add a Lange at some point, though. They are in my mind the serious guy's watch choice.

I have a few German watches over the years too, but didn't venture far away from the mainstream brands.
Excellent and eclectic collection Gerard. So many different personalities in that group.
Singling out just one is dangerous but the ALS Moonphase with blue strap elicited a "wow" from me

You my friend have a stunning and inspirational German collection Gerard! I love how they are thoughtfully organized in your first grid picture. Then you share the name , and an interesting tidbit on each one alone. Very nice choices! I too am a huge fan of Germans and have owned many including DEKLA, Stowa, Archimede, Sinn, LACO, Damasko, NOMOS, GO, and ALS! In my journey, I’ve learned that most Germans punch WAY above their weight, and there is some serious value to be had in the $1-$2k range. Which is proof you don’t need to spend tons of money to get a very nice watch. Some pics 🙂

I have heard that the finishing on ALS is far superior to GO, especially on the movement. I heard it has more handcrafting. Would you agree?
If ALS has great finishing, how does Dornblueth compare to ALS? Dornblueth seems like a good value comparitively speaking, plus the customization options are attractive to me.

Yes,Lange is much more hand finishing than GO. Although technically GO's movements are impressive!
Dornblüth makes beautiful watches but it is hard to do better than Lange on movement finishing.
