Independents

if I may interject...

 By: didwlgh : February 3rd, 2014-13:54

Been following this thread as I find the movement very beautiful.

After looking at the photos several times, I think the two bits of metal sticking out of the "winding barrel chaton" seem to be fixing screws, much like that of the Lange chatons & fixing screws (though they are usually blued)?

In any case, very much looking forward to more information in the near future!

Lets wait for better pictures...

before we start with claiming obfuscation.
As I see it all the chatons are being held by two screws, also the one for the barrel.
But pplater will certainly delight us with more pictures soon in which we can better see the situation.

Hi Don

Of course it will be interesting to see more pictures of such an interesting watch.
And of course there are screws holding the chatons ;-0)

Still, none of the above answers the question what the two bits of metal are sticking out of the winding barrel chaton (4th try).
Since no-one here with any knowledge will even see the issue discussed=obfuscation in my book.
So for further information I will go to some professionals and get an answer about it.

Let stop it here until we have more images...

To come to a more informed conclusion. Until then I will refrain from further input given the imputations made here which are unworthy in a discussion amongst adults.

Magnus

P.S.: should I be wrong I will be the first to offer an apology - as it should be!

Yes, let's talk about being adult Magnus....

Seeing that the only thing you can evidently follow my discussion with is uncalled for mudslinging, by attempting to infer I am not talking in an adult manner worthy of discussion with you, then I am more than pleased to leave you to the horological sandbox in which you have happily positioned yourself as Magnus Mundi.

It's quite understandable...

 By: pplater : February 3rd, 2014-14:48
...how you might come to that conclusion from the picture provided - mea culpa.  In other photos it seems that the 'shears' you mention are in fact tiny retaining screws.  That is not to say, of course, that the movement is flawless: we each have our own idea of what 'flawless' should mean (and whether or not it is a desirable attribute in a handmade watch!).  We'll have the opportunity for a closer look shortly.

Thanks for your observations.

Cheers,
pplater.

Thank you!

Thank you very much for (the only)  straight answer and acknowledgement in this discussion, very much appreciated.
I am very curious to see what these bits are in the final result.

Again: this is not to take anyone down, even IF it might be a mistake by the maker. Watches are made by people in the end.
There are just some unusual looking bits in the picture for me as a long term collector.
And if a picture gets posted, there will be inevitably be comments- that is part of the game.

If remarks or critique (correct or incorrect) are being quashed (or ignored) then this forum runs the risk of becoming nothing more than a Facebook page with
hits (22 people like this). Which is why the defensive knee jerk reaction of some here is less laudable for the development of an active forum.

So again, thanks for a spot on reaction. I look forward to learning  - and hearing - more  ;-0

Simply doesn't get much better than that.....

You know my feelings about Klings already, and this one is shaping up to be a masterpiece.  One of the most beautiful movements I've ever laid eyes on.

I'll wait with everyone else for the full Monty.

Darren

You are a lucky man pplater...

That movement is beautiful.
I can't wait to see in more detail how it is done.
Those look like polished pillars reflecting their surroundings.

But what are those dinguses hanging off of the doohickeys that even though the photo is blurry I can clearly see must be the moons of Uranus?

Oh...never mind!

Cheers, best wishes, and can't wait to see the reverse,

Gary

"Moons of Uranus" yourself!... :-) [nt]

A treat for me!

Wonderful to meet you at last -- you have now moved from being a shadowy but benevolent presence on the Australian watch scene to a real live person!

Hope to meet you on many more occasions in future.

All the best,

Gary

hmm...benevolent...

....

Hope you all had a blast on your remaining days there. It would be grand if we crossed paths again, perhaps with pplater present next time...

A very dangerous idea!... [nt]

Very curious to see the dial side of Mr. Klings' creation. Knowing his work, I strongly suspect it will not disappoint.

Eagerly awaiting more...

Cheers,
Tim
