An evening with the Sarpanevas

A mini gtg last night in Singapore with a group of gentlemen whom I have gotten to know to be a jovial and candid bunch.

The greeting at the door

The 1st inspiration piece for Stepan - timetram

A piece of inspiration from motorbike, quite hefty unlike his watches which are surprisingly light even though they are in stainless steel.

The lastest from Stepan, KO. A diver watch with rotating inner bezel and a crown shaped like the case. This facilitates easy access and turning of the timepiece.

A look at the back of the KO

The simple time date K1 on the wrist. Love the blue hue on the dial.

The hands are alternately finished in polished and sand blasted. Nice touch.

My favorite among the pieces, the K3 in gray dial and rose gold moon phase. The black dial with rose gold moon phase that's been red dot awarded are all sold out but this grey alternative looks good too.

Feels surprisingly light for a stainless steel watch that I thought it was titanium.

As for the symbiosis of horology and gastronomy - typical PuristS attractions here - no matter how delectible the watch or delicious the meal, I still fail to make the connection.

Enjoy either of them for yourselves or both together - so long as they last!

The Sarpanevas will not only last longer but may provide more than a fleeting experience of pleasure.

Newsreport: a sheik from Dubai has just visited my hometown of Hamburg, Germany on the search for winter clothing!

He apparently dined, during the daily working hours, at one of my favorite places - Daniel Wischer just off the major shopping area. There the only food you get is fresh fish served right from the pan with NO sauce or decorations beyond the traditional sprig of parsely.

And a slice of lemon.

I shall repeat this experience tomorrow - after my visit at Wempe's - a nice place too, if only for the watches.

And the champagne!

too much heavily sauced or over prepared food can be quite sick for the palete

Over here, we just go for a simple chinese porridge.

The conversation was the most impt at the gtg I feel and the cosy setting plus small delightful party of 6 made it even better.

By the way, I came back from the fish restaurant today after sorely missing some sauce and spices !!!

But wearing a new GO Panoinverse XL and carrying a bottle of champagne as a very nice thought from the shop.

Am I ever feeling happy !

Without having opened the bottle, but that will come - and surely this evening!

Welcome back to the world of everyday dismal eating.

How many of us here would choose to live in a world of perpetual boredom, relieved only by unpleasant and dramatic events while having the means to take a vacation to a place where it does not rain day after day - most of the time? Which I never do, don't go anywhere, not even for GTGs. Sorry - never !

The word is Envy - I am envious of all of you who lovingly or feel obliged to photograph their multi-course meals with watches draped around the plates, or the individual courses themselves - one shot after another and another and another . . .

As for drama, I once experienced a cook who drew a knife and held it to my throat for what seemed to me half an hour while I patiently explained to him why his kidney-mushroom composition did not work - especially for me.

With that crazed glint in his eyes, I could have easily have become the new item on the menu, an Amery-goulash.

Enjoy it while you can - or me if you want to photograph me on a plate.

I'm not too surprised by the trend as the AHCI makers circle is rather small.

It does make sense to leverage on the strengths of the different masters to create wonderful projects. Akin to the Opus projects.

As for the food, we are spoiled for choice with spicy stuff here.

In fact just had roasted pork, bbq pork with tangy lime garlicky chilli sauce and rice for dinner. A simple favorite for locals here.

I am a big fan of Stepans work (and have one on the way) and it is great to see all his watches lined up and being admired. Across the range the watches are so different that they seem to include a watch for everyone and I just love the blue finish.

What should be on my wrist as I read this post, but my Sarpaneva Harvest Moon. The Harvest Moon is supposed to be black, but I wanted one in polished stainless steel, and Mr. Sarpaneva was kind enough to oblige.

The watch is wonderful on the wrist--very comfortable for its size. Also, Mr. Sarpaneva seems to have completed the finishing under a scanning electron microscope...it is that flawless.

However, I just ordered it, which was easy and, actually, very enjoyable.

To his credit, Mr. Sarpaneva made the watch and delivered it well before it was promised. I purchased it through my local AD, who is also absolutely first rate.
