I am fortunate enough to own a GMT/Perpetual and it has become one of my favorites. Setting the watch is quite straightforward. However, if the watch were not to be worn for a few months (or a year, god forbid!), what is the best way to advance the month, day and date forward without either going turning the hands through each 24 hour day or pressing the "+" button to move the hour hand forward continuously? If these are the only ways, is one preferred over the other? Thanks!

When the crown is pulled out to its first setting, about halfway, it is possible to set the month, date and year without changing the time.  The second setting of the crown--all the way out--adjusts the time and the day of the week.  A combination of these two settings permit rapid adjustment of the watch if it has not be wound/worn for a long time.  And if you go too far forward, fear not, for the GMT+/- Perpetual can be set backwards as well!  More details can be found in the manual.

Is to make sure to have the hour hand on 6 before adjusting month/year to ensure the gears aren't engaged for date change.
