Patek Philippe

About 8 years ago I was given my late grandfathers watch which seems to be a Ref 565 in stainless steel. At that point I had no idea what it was and just put it in a drawer.  The story I was told was that my grandmother had purchased the watch used around the year of 1940 for the sum of $400.00.  My grandfather passed away in 1975 so the watch has been just sitting for about 40 years.  Just recently I looked into what I had and realized it has some value and in fact may be very rare.  I haven't been able to remove the screw on back so the case number and movement number at this moment are unknown.  The watch is original in every way comparing it to others I have seen pictures of.  The watch in used condition(my grandfather wore it daily) it has the subsidiary second hand below the main hands that is blueish radium and also the main hands are also radium.  It has the original crown and back, the back has a dent in it.  If anyone has information as to the rarity of this model and also if I should be looking into getting it restored of should leave it alone and where to get it restored if that is better.  Any information is great. I bought the PP 565 4 week ago.

I tell you the story: my dentist knows that i love PP.

One of his patients worked for a wealthy man who died some years ago and the daughter of this man gave the PP to him for his loyalty to his father.

It seems that the watch was rarely used during 50 years..., as the mint conditions say.

From when he received the 565, 5 or 6 years ago he never used it!

He tried to sell it for some months without success.

Then he asked to my dentist to pay his bill giving him the 565....

Then I received the call from the dentist and I bought it immediatly, due to the perfect conditions and also to the fact that was in steel!!!

I like White PP!

Unfortunately he have not the original paper, but with a letter from the doughter of the owner to his employee...

I really do not know if what I pay is correct because I found very different evaluations on internet (from 10.000€ to 50.000€)

Anyway,I like this watch, and as you can see I have only changed the strap becauseit is really in perfect condition and never polished.

What about yours? It is travelling to Geneva???

If yes, please post the final result, even if I know that you will have it back from PP in more then one year!!!

and congrats for your heirloom. Even when yours is in a bad condition, it still is a nice piece and adorable piece. But I would recommend to send it to Patek Philippe Geneva and they will take good care of it. It will need some time (minimum 12 month, my guess) and it will cost some money, but you won´t be dissappointed and I would do it without hesitation. I would not recommend to try any local watchmaker!

Thank you for the welcome Oliver!  Any idea how much it costs to send the watch to Patek  for repairs?  I have heard they would make it like new at a cost of about $5000.00, does that sound about right?
