Patek Philippe Ref. 2499 first and second series
Interested in knowing about Ref. 2499 first and second series. In the first series apparently 40 watches in yellow gold, and 4 in pink gold are believed to have been produced thus far. Would like to know the dates when the first series started, and ended (I think 1950-1957?, and when the second series started, and ended, and how many reported yellow gold watches produced, apparently 7 pink gold are known to exist in the Ref. 2499 second series. Apparently the 3rd series, and 4th series 2499 are much less rare than the 2499 first series (the rarest) and 2499 second series. Can anybody please shed some light on 2499 first and second series? The third series began in 1960-1978, and the fourth series began in 1978-1985.

Thomas, your production years for the 1st series are wrong - 1951 to circa 1960 is correct. ... Third series from 1960 to 1978.
The 2499 is in a league of their own and probably one of the most beautiful, wearable and understated chronograph with perpetual calendar and moonphase - no matter which version.
Give me one of those three (!?) pieces with sapphire crystal back and I am more than happy

It never hurts to say please and / or thank you when making a query ; introducing yourself, especially as a newcomer to the forum helps to break the ice and people would be more inclined to share their horological knowledge.
As far as 2499 is concerned, these are apparently made over 4 series, majority in yellow gold; first series is supposedly the rarest; and its considered exceedingly rare in rose gold (perhaps no more than 4 are known to have been offered for sale); actually the last rose gold 2499 sold at a Christies auction for $2.7 million
The exact production numbers are perhaps only known to Patek Philippe; the rest is just speculative.

I am not able to help you much here with my limited knowledge of Patek. Apart to knowing that ref 2499 is a one of the holy grail Vintage watch of Patek and its relative value to other Patek, I do not have very much more information. It's one of the high-end Patek Vintage that is very rare today. What an interesting to know that the ref 2499 is release in 4 series myself !
Perhaps you would want to frame your question with a bit more context. Why your interest on the Ref 2499 ? Are you looking to buy or sell this piece or do you hold on to one and checking the value ? I think with a little more background, you should be able to attract more specific replies that are helpful to your situation.
