I can't think of another reference that generates as much discussion and emotion as the 5070. A watch rooted in the past but with the bold modern case/size, even before we wanted big watches. A watch ahead of its time yet behind its time.
I shied away at first given the substantial 42mm diameter. Now it feels pretty natural, easily wearable on the wrist. Love the stepped bezel.
And the often criticized "small" movement relative to this case somehow adds to the charm.
The detail of the dial is second to none, and the beauty may be second to none, especially in PT/blue, second RG/smoky gray.
I can see why some collectors may want all 4--each with such different personality.

Great watch, but it is still not the best chrono, and also no longer the coolest chrono. The 5070 is rather in a class of its own.
Even when it got my attention ...
several times, it never got my heart. Looks much better on wrists of others 
Nonetheless, to get them all is a a thought that I like a lot - for all who really love it.

You are The Master for expressing the beauties and other attributes to/for aTime Piece, however and with all due respect, I am not agreeing with you on what you wrote about the white gold been Rhodium Plated is a "con" . Actually Rhodium is a Noble metal and part of the Platinum family . Hence why white gold ornaments be them watches or jewels in general are more expensive than normal gold.

It depends...
it's like everything, you may have a good job or a bad job. If the rhodium plating is done properly by good/real professionals and of course it cost more..surprise, surprise! then you have a product which will last almost for ever and won't become yellowish. All white gold is rhodium plated and needs to be, as in its original form it is a little yellow of course been made of 75% yellow gold. I am sure that the rhodium plated time pieces coming from the Grandes Maisons is impeccable and won't change colour.

It is not the first time that I find interesting the YG version with a black dial. But I'have never seen it in real. But as you say, to own the 4 versions would avoid any hesitation. But it is another story ;-)

I'm with you in that I would have gone with the 5070G as well then added a 5396R or G for the same as just owning the 5070P by itself. I do like the P slightly better but not 40k (give or take) better. Aside from that two Patek's are almost always better than one! Thanks again for the great post!

I am not able to add anything new to what has already been discussed.
I have never had the pleasure of examining or even seeing one in the flesh, so I am not able to comment on the practicality or beauty of the dial and movement.
The 5070 has never been one of my favourite Pateks, and I guess that I have always overlooked it for it's bigger brother the 5970.
That said, I also understand, appreciate and respect those members who do own and love this piece. And for what it is worth, the 5070 imo beats hands down the newer 5170, as I much prefer the dial on the 5070.
Like a previous member has already stated, growing up in the 70's when my Father owned a garage, I was surrounded my motoring magazines, on the back pages, were adverts after adverts showing 3 dial chronographs for sale, so I suspect that deep down in my subconscious, that this was the format for a chronograph.
