One of my favorite Patek complications has always been chronograph.
This reference is one of my favourite for two reasons; the large case size (36mm) and the styling. Although I have always loved the classic calatrava case design, this reference certainly marked a departure of the otherwise conservative house.
This particular example comes with an interesting provenance, as it was originally owned by Mr. Peter Schmid, who is considered to be Germany's foremost Industrial designer.
Mr. Schmidt is primarily known for his modern and futurist design.
Although the dial has imperfections, I actually love the patina, and character of this piece.
I could only imagine the interesting journey this watch most of had on the wrist of such a facinating and accomplished individual as Mr.Schmidt.

No, the watch came to me as is. It's my understanding that the previous owner had difficulties seeing the 2nd hand and subsequently sent the watch (many decades ago) to Patek, Geneva to have both the 2nd hand and crown replaced (amazing all the trouble he undertook just to make these small changes).
I'm very glad he did so, as I LOVE the beautiful 2nd hand and crown (very much suits this piece, and makes it somewhat more unique) Also, I'm not sure how amenable Patek would be to making this switch today.

What a lovely 36 mm case with a nice, BIG crown.
Patek could and should have dared a bit more to go even further back down in size with the current 5170, I suppose.

Funny because this is NOT a typical Patek complication contrary to the perpetual calendar or the worldtime which is more emblematic from the house imho.
But every time they made chronographs, they made them really good.
I remember trying the 130, pure "finesse". The 1579 has more straight and typical Patek lugs, so elegant and classy. And later the 5070 which thinking back at the time it was launched was incredibly bold and strong from Patek side.
Finally the made their own chronograph caliber... but here I am not so convinced by the case as I was for vintage and 5070 reference. ^^

A watch with character!!
Must agree with the comments concerning the centre seconds chronograph hand - it "makes" the watch. The oversize winder looks so practical, the whole balance is just perfect. The epitome of a vintage Patek chrono.

Honestly if I was on the market today for a Patek Philippe chronograph I would go vintage, and would not even need a watch as beautiful as yours.
I love the 5070 and even more the 5170, but vintage PP chronographs are just perfect.
