Patek Philippe

Tried the 5205 yesterday. Wow, that is a nice piece. It has some heft to it. The pointed lugs and hollowed sides look a bit odd in pictures but in real life it just works. Odd, but there it is.

Looked underwhelmed in pictures but WOW when i saw it and tried it on.Very nice.

This watch is not a Patek, imho ... if I look at the design.

It is one of the very few, possibly only watch from Patek that I would not want to have .

The lugs are playful with theire holes, the central second hand gets too much attention as it stands out and

drags the view immediately on itself, being white.

The batons are, too, long.

In black, not seen yet, it could be possibly very difficult to read as poor of contrast and due to the reflecting saphire.

The design is just cold, clinical, aseptic ...

 

Not to offend any owners, but to me it has not done much yet.

But let us see how the YG or RG will look like ... blue sunburst and YG -- that would be a blow!

I am a moderator, and I don't always say positive things about PP, by far...

Same for Panerai, JLC Blancpain, VC, Lange and so on.

I'm not paid by PP, nor by JLC, by the way, to say only good things. I'm not paid AT ALL, by the brands, nor anyone else, here.

And you know what, I am not alone in this case.

So, please, I'lm getting tired with your behaviour. You can say what you want, you will notice that I didn't edit your negative thoughts, but once you said it, why repeating it?

You also know that we don't force you to post here, either.

Yes, in some points, like publicising auction results here and therefore stressing the value aspect of watches by that, but  to ban

discussions about value issues among eachothers, is not "understandable" in the first moment.

But I believe the close realtionship of manufactures and this forum, in terms of getting first hand and early news, would be endagered, if value issues were discussed in public.



WHAT can be discussed here openly is taste, certainly.

And this would be more of an unacceptable situation if this would be policed by the moderator.

I, personally, would like to see more critical views, frankly aired opinions about design, complications, functionality.

More opposing comments about taste, choices that we made or are going to make.

Certainly, opposing criticism is hard to face, for some people, but I personally welcome them always...

in Basel 2010 and I liked it even more after seeing it in the boutique in Geneva.

My favorite is the one with silver dial, which was another surprise.

Ever since the annual calendar came out in this design, I was a bit puzzled about the reason for omitting the frames around the two outer calendar windows. Compared with the date's window at 12, this made the other two windows appear a bit like stamped holes. Now your pictures clearly indicates that the outer windows, too, have frames. Is this the more recent variant? I definitely would prefer your version over the others, only due to these frames.

Marcus, the watch was introduced in 2010 and there have been no changes so far.
By the way, you can find the same kind of frames at Ref. 5207 which was introduced in 2008.

it is just a part of the design approach. Nothing more, nothing less. More sophisticated cases need more sophisticated dials ...
