I am not new to watches but I am new to Patek, or perhaps, Patek is new to me. I have been studying the various models current and retired. I prefer arabic numerals when available and I prefer red gold in many cases. I am also attracted to the white gold with Patek. As most of the models I really prefer are in the 80-350K price range, I have set my sights lower for this first purchase. The officer style pieces get my attention but most are too small for current wearing IMO. The Calatrava's may be just a bit too classic for my taste - just not quite enough pizazz. Then again, when I see a great photo of almost any model it has pizazz!.
I have for today zeroed in on the 5124G. By the way I am a brown strap person as well.
I would be very grateful if some of you would be kind enough to comment on this piece, or even perhaps have a wrist shot. I would like to know just how the community views this piece. Any alternative models to suggest would as well be appreciated.
Thank you for the comment. I have decided to pass on this model. I have a 6 3/4 wrist and I think it might be a little large. So I am still in the hunt (which is all the fun for me).
After going to my local AD (but not for PP) and trying on some other pieces of the same size and shape, I feel the size is fine on my wrist. I think my decision now rests on the contrast in the dial/case and the art deco style. I do think a dark brown strap tones the piece down without ruining it.
Your photo has helped a lot. Very much appreciated.
Thanks to all for your input. I have decided to purchase a 5054 R. It should arrive next week. Although I would have preferred to have the arabic numerals, I just did not like the 5015 hobnail version. This is my first PP.
I appreciate your kind comment. Due to my traveling the next few days, I will not actually have the piece until early next week. My first Patek and second pre-owned piece. I acquired it from a very well recognized US AD so I anticipate no problems. I hope the reality of owning it exceeds my anticipation.
