Patek Philippe

Just wanted to know what PP fans felt about the difference between these 2 models. I know they are completely different. I would like to get a PP that I can wear daily. I know watches aren't meant to think of as investments, but do people feel that either model would be a better investment, for at least keeping it's value?

I know you should buy whatever you like the best, but I like the look of both, even though they are very different. My main concern with the World Time watch is that I won't wear it on a daily basis. I don't travel a lot and when I do, I usually wear a much cheaper watch in case I would lose it upon my travels.

Is one watch considered more complicated than the other?

Please tell me what you think?

The Cal 240, which is used in both of these watches.

If you think that the 5712 may be a watch to wear every day, you're wrong:

The bezel is a scratch magnet.

As for the complications, of course they are very different.

I don't think that the fact that you use them very often or not is important.

When you buy a Chrono, do you often use it?



They both are very desirable watches, and personally, I love them both, but I have a preference for the WT.

Not that I travel a lot, but I love the concept of the WT.

So, at the end, your wirst should tell you which one to choose between these 2 very interesting watches.

It is up to you, and only you.

... that is the answer to what you are asking yourself.

If you ask which is considered more complicated, it implies that you know that complications make a watch valuable, a potential investment.

But not these that you have in mind.

What can be applied on your information are watches that the "average" consumer will not be able to buy, get or even be offered.

To spot the potantial of an investment in a watch is still quite difficult and not just based on name, figures or a simple rule.

I hope it does not put you off, as both are equally great watches and have a big community of admirer in common.

I, personally would choose the WT as it is a lovely idea to see what time is all around the world.

The function, the pusher at 10 o'clock, was not as smooth as I expected in the model that I once tested and tried on, but the watch itself feels

great on the wrist.


As mentioned many times before: watches of these caliber are driven by an irrational, or if you want to formulate differently: by an emotional, impuls.

Which is certainly also a very important human behavior and a key aspect of human being.

Reptile brain, there it all starts ...

In your own words

I have a PP 5110R myself and I love it
Ive owned it since 2005 and maybe wore it less than a dozen times
no reason why or any rational explanation

I have about 17 other watches that range in value from $5k+ a piece up to $100k+ a piece
I find that even if I like all of them for their own respective look, function, etc; the daily wear is the TISSOT T-touch
Pathetic, isn't it???

Both are very desirable watches.

the 5712/A is one of those rae stainless steel by Patek and very much sought after.As for the 5130 it woyuld have to be the platinum if u are really after this model.

Go with what u feel best. U can't go wrong with either one. Have a good headache if u really have to crack your head!.

I wear my Patek 3800 daily, in fact I wear it 24/7. If you want to wear a watch daily, and cant bear to wear a World Time daily, then go for the 5712; assuming you can wear the 5712 daily.

would be my choice.

Patek does need to offer a up-grade for the city ring, and get Caracas off of there!

Nautilus SS is any weather and occasion watch

yes it is scratch magnet as Nicolas said

but I admire the WT more.  My heart beats faster whenever I see the WT but I don't have the feel for 5712.  I don't know how big a scratch magnet the 5712 is but a daily wearer should be by definition scratch resistant.  I go for WT.

The 5712/1a is much more of a practical day-to-day watch, even if it is a scratch magnet. I have the 5712G which is even more of a scratch magnet, but gets fewer of them as it feels less like a daily wearer. The WT is a really nice watch with a great movement and has real practical value if you spend your days talking to people around the globe. A couple of clicks and you can even know what time it is in Caracas ;-) But the WT can't be confused with being a travel watch which to its advantage means it's not going to get dinged on overhead storage bins and on cab doors in strange cities.

I still think the perfect watch would be a steel Nautilus travel watch built into the 5980 case or thinner preferably), where the chrono pushers would do the duty of moving the local time hour hand back and forth depending on location. What currently is the chrono counter on the 5980 would become the "home" time dial. That I think would be the one for me: practically and effectively complicated but durable enough to stand the rigors of regular travel.

I have a 5980 and planning to use the chrono as 2nd time zone. Is it advisable to do so? Will i harm the watch if i keep the chrono running for days and weeks?
