and yes i wear my watches thats the only reason a person should buy a watch or car imho

i wanted to own a prep clender before i reached 30 and im glad i did so that i dont buy more watches or at least try to

 

 

Get your grail watch right from the start and then you don't have to keep on buying and selling.

I wish that I had done that, unfortunately I didn't know anything about PP back then.

However I might not agree with you owning your grail watch sooner so you could avoid buying more later... because they will be more new grail watches coming your way and older/existing ones that you haven't discovered or you haven't begun to know them better to become a grail watch to you All these can be summed up easily with the word 'downhill' . Yes, it's downhill from the moment you started this passion and usually it keeps getting worse, buying more and spending more (within your means of course) while enjoying it. Doesn't sound that bad does it?

Enjoy them, to me once I stopped buying/looking at watches (especially those which I don't already owned) becomes a passion killer. To me hunting down one is always exciting,keeps the passion alive.

i agree with you but to me a 5970 is very hard to beat its such a classic looking watch and to top that its a patek

 

i own a few other watches just so that i swap them around and i try to get ss, yellow gold, and rose in my watch collection plus on leather and bracelet i think its important to try to get the right mix for each person but i beilve that there is never "the" perfect collection

 

 

 

I thought my 3940 was the GRAIL watch, then came 5140, then came datograph, resonance,......duometre plat soon?...gyrotourby2 ... gruelling but exciting...I love the journey. It's very safe to say my condition ends up a collection of grail watches over time, though I have no regret, so long I'm not broke acquiring them.

on a wonderful watch. As CL has very well expressed, 5970 in any guise is just about the quintessential PP in our generation. I have to agree that indeed there is no perfect collection PERIOD. However, there is a perfect collection for THAT period of time when you were either building up to it or enjoying it as I firmly believe that with the passage of time, our tastes evolve and our collection rightly or wrongly reflects that. So what might have been perfect last year or decade more often than not will not be when looked at again in a different time frame. Congrats again on an awesome piece...

This piece will always has its place in history once they are all gone.
It is the first piece , together with 5970R , that Patek decided to launch its 5970 series base on 2499 first series.
Money comes , money goes but this watch will stay with you if you buy it and enjoy for many many years.
Imho, it is a very safe purchase and not much financial risk. If possible, you should really go get one and try it out.

the perpetual calendar 5140G
You don't really need that additional chronograph.
I never use them for anything.
It just happen that I'm a fan of manual wind watch and I don't remember seeing a manual wind Patek Perpetual Calendar.
If not, I think I will want just a perpetual calendar,much purer.
