I Bought my 5960 in march 2008 from a German AD.the month indication didn`t jump from march to april.Watch was send to the german service center in munich.Came back three weeks later: nothing found.It weared it happiliy  until the end of the year...Same problem happend end of the year:the indication didn`t make the turn of the year,2009 started with the 1 th of Dec.Meanwhile the watch has been transferred to Geneva.I got the message that it will take 4 month to check.Did anybody make the same experience with this reference?

Many members of the Purists are familiar with the issues I have faced with my 5960.
To answer your question first: No I didnt have the same problem. But...

The Summary would be;
On day, My 5960 has stopped functioning. The AD said it would take 6 months, came back in 4,5.
This was in January.

UPdate:
Few weeks ago, I was taking my watch off. I pulled it out of my wrist and holding it with my right hand.
All of a sudden it slipped my hand and fell on the floor(hardwood). The height was about 32 inches(81 cm).
I saw the watch falling face angled about 45 degrees. It seemed like, the platinum frame was going to take the first hit.
The same second, I heard "POOOFFF".
There were only few tiny pieces are left of the crystal on the floor and the rest was a dust.
There was no crystal left on the watch.

The next day I took back to the AD. First, I didn't tell what happened; they couldn't either.
Nothing happened to the dial TG, except crystal dust which needs to be cleaned but they might have to open everything to make sure nothing
slipped inside the movement.

Isn't amazing, a watch like that falls from 80cm and the crystal blows away.

Very very disappointed.

I'm sorry for you! It must a very breath taking instant to live!

In fact it is not surprising that a sapphire crystal breaks so easily. It is supposedly unscratchable (unless you try with a diamond or something else very strongly) to some extent, but in no way unbreakable.  To avoid breaking a plexiglass is much much better. It scratches easily, but hardly brakes!

That's why the Omega Speedmaster Pro for long remained faithful to the plexiglass!

... agree with you fully - plexi and chrystal is fully different ...

The chrystal is so hard, that it does not absorb swings in the material - it breaks to dust.

I know that if my year 1983 calatrava would fall on the floor, the chrystal most likely would break - it´s all a question of the angle and how much vibration is produced ...

On the other side - the relex deep sea has a chrystal so thik, that is would surprise us here how much shock it can take ...

I am in a similar postion, with my 5140 currently with the Patek Service Centre in the UK.  

Do you think that PP uses a cheap crystal on all watches or did PP just use a cheap on the 5960?

This is not a question of cheap crystal!

If you want something that is not breaking under shocks, get a plexiglass. But it will soon be scratched!

A sapphire crystal will always break if there is a schock strong enough, or depending on the angle!

Even on the Rolex DSSD I'm sure you can break the crystal if you want to! On that watch the crystal is very thick to resist the amazing pressure the watch is supposed to withstand, but knock it enough and no doubt it will break!

You don't want a crystal to break, don't knock it!  That's why the crystal is never warranted on a watch!
