comparing other watches of the price range, can i still justify the purchase? any opinions?

the 5124G, I just jump to it. IMHO, 5124G has the following pros over 5098:

1. price is only 1/2;

2. it has small second hand

3 the case back is curve instead of flat like the 5098 and is much more elegant

4.the original gondolo used round instead of form movement and when you see the display back, it is obvious the form movemnt fits better in the 5124 than in the 5098

 

5124 is one of the rare PP that makes me think about it...

But I still have in mind this bloody 5100 Ten Days in WG...A Bloody rare Bird!

I think that a WG/RG version of this will be offered by Patek. If you are willing to wait, it will shave 20% off the price. I do not know about you, but it is extremely overpriced. I like the way it looks but for 10K more, you can get a 5040G. It is more value for money. Just a thought. It looks beautiful, but I do not know what is so special about it to be worth so much.

the 5098 is overpriced for what it is. However, I don't think it can be compared with the 5124 as it has a completely different look.
To me, the 5124 is straight forward and rather plain looking, like so many other watches of the same ilk. The 5098P is a stunningly beautiful watch which  has a dial like no other I have seen. Still overpriced . I will look forward to getting a pre-owned one later on.

Pretend we are in the year 2012 and you are looking at the Jan 1st 2008 prices and think again......

not to long ago i was looking at a hansome PP to wear to a 2000 new year's party, i am glad, that's all I can say.

 

I also have a hard time to justify the price that c an afford annual calendar.
On top of it  - introduction of 5124G just makes it an easy choice for me

I am wondering about the price of this watch. It is a beautiful piece and I love its look. However, considering how simple it is, why is it so expensive? You can get a 5040 with 10K more. I just cannot get myself to justify the value for the watch. It is almost arbitrarily priced. I was talking about it to a watch dealer who was pretty blunt. He said, "It should be worth half the cost." I am wondering what is unique about the piece. Any ideas?

an emotional one than a logical one for me, if ever. i will sleep over, view the watch over again at the AD over weekend , and see if it still strikes me as much as at first since the PP exhibition a year ago, along with the less expensive 5124 launched. btw, the price has increased 30 % since i reserved it after the exhibition.
