which dial you prefer more?? The white enamal or the black lacquer?
And can anyone tell, whether it comes with a cathedral gong?
Thx in advance, Addi
Having said that, I'd probably opt for the black even though white/enamel is THE look for this piece which epitomizes Patek classicism at its best.
Dear Addi,
Yes, I can confirm the 5078P does NOT have the cathedral gongs. Only 5079 anf 5074 has.
Congrats to your decision on a Patek MR. As we discuss before, I prefer the 5078P with white enamel dial. But given the unforgettable experience from a 5079J from a collector in Toronto, I will stick to a 5079 if
1) I have the money to buy a Patek MR
2)If I can still get a 5079.(it's not in production anymore)
Cheers,
Larry
Just one more question.
I learn that 5078 is not stated as "Cathedral Gongs" in the Patek catalogue. However, I heard from HSA that the it should be equipped with "cathedral gongs", and the moderator form another forum also verified this.
So, what would be the conclusion?
Further, is there any advantage of cathedral gongs over other MR?
Thx again,
Addi
The case size of the 5078 is not large enough for the gongs that wrap around the movement twice.
Only the 5074 and 5079 with case size of over 41mm have the cathedral gongs.
I personally don't think that the cathedral gongs sound any better than regular ones.
Based on the White Dial 5078 no longer shown in the 2008-09 Patek book and that Patek had every current whatch they make at the Tiffany New York event, and only the black 5078 was shown, it is my opinion the white is no longer available.
That does not mean you cannot get one just not new, unless already on order.
