Patek Philippe

Hi guys,

I am new member here, I have been collecting Patek and Lange but can't seem to get 5070 and not to mention 5074.

Help anybody?

The 5070 has been discontinued, and Patek is no longer taking new orders.

The only way to get a 5070 now would be on the grey market.

That's not against you!

In fact the 5070 is a hot seller, always hard to find, and may be discontinued! You may check with your Patek Philippe AD or even contact the Patek Philippe office in your country. Chance of availability seems very small indeed.

Ref 5074 is not discontinued but is a low production piece with high demand. Furthermore you have to apply to order the watch. If you have been collecting Patek Philippe watches you probably receive the Patek Philippe magazine (you just need to register one of your watches). In the last issue from this fall Mr Philippe Stern explains the procedure to be allocated a high complication watch (tourbillon, minute repeater or split second chrono). You may also ask your AD how to proceed.

Thanks guys, Yes I know it is very hard to find. Actually I already have 2 5070 in White Gold. Bought it 6 months ago, now I am looking for Rose and Yellow Gold.  You know anybody that wants to sell?

As for 5074, I have tried, but even my AD said it is impossible, eventhough he sold me 5102 and 5101 last year. I can't sleep until I can get that piece my friends.

I am also looking 5959. why is it that most AP do not know this model even exists? Where do you suggest I go to get this piece? I did read the interview with Mr. Stern and he mentione something about the Geneva showroom.

Is this model only available through the Patek in house retailers?

5959 has been on the Patek Philippe catalog for two to three years now. If an AD doesn't know it he may not be an AD.

This watch is made in very limited quantities (AFAIK production is limited to ten pieces a year).

If you hope to buy one yes the best way is probably to call the Patek Philippe showrooms in Geneva.

You may prepare a list of all your Patek Philippe watches with serial numbers and be open to write a letter of application to Mr Stern.

Some find this unacceptable. I have to admit that I find this procedure very smart and responsible if the Patek Philippe management wants to avoid speculation on Patek Philippe hot models as much as possible.

It is definitely a thin line to be in if you want to find the perfect balance between the promotion of the watches you sell (and have to sell to make the company profitable and keep it alive) and the development of a strong base of long term fans that are not disgusted by the speculators.

By the way I was surprised to read that you own two 5070 G!  If that's the case you should offer to exchange one against a rose gold version!  Just an opinion.

Thanks for the info and suggestion Dje. I will be attending the Basel
Fair next April and stop by the Patek Showroom in Geneva to try my
luck.

By the way, what are my changes of getting Mr. Stern's approval to let
me buy 5959?

I have some grand complication, 5101, 5102 and 5970RG

Other model that I have is 5712WG, 5960, 5070 and 5980.

What would be the minimum requirement to get that piece?

I am also presently queing to get 5074 in RG, but my AD says the
chances are a bit slim and even if I can get it, it will take a very
long time. Would going to the Geneva Store improve my chances? Sorry
for asking too much, but I am a bit confused bt the way Patek sells
their timepiece.

You're welcome.

That's not that Patek Philippe has a strange way to sell their watches but there are aparently die hard fans who buy all their pieces (well a bit like you do indeed)

If you've been entitled to buy those you have already you can try your luck for more.

What is sure is that it will take time!

I have no idea if going to Geneva can help. Your AD should be your best friend for that.

I strongly advise you to read last issue of the Patek Philippe magazine before doing anything.

...but frankly, I am somewhat surprised about some of your questions above
considering your fabulous pieces you already own. I'd figured  - if not you - your AD would be informed
about the procedure since you already own 5101(!), 5102 (!), 5970, 5712, 5960, 5070 x 2 and 5980.
It is in fact strange that AD with enough clout to get those pieces from distributor was not able to tell you
about how to order 5074.

Seems funding is not a problem, in that case I would seriously consider secondary market,
because even at current premium above MSRP - it could be  a LOT less than what you would pay 'years down the road'
even when and if Patek would approve your application.

I deal with 3 AD here and they all said the same thing. It would be
very2 hard and almost impossible to get the piece (5074).

I don't know if that's part of their trick , very common in where I live.

Anyway thank you all for the input. Will let you know after I got back
from Basel, it will be my first trip to Basel or European soil as a
matter of fact.

Hi guys, sorry no picture yet because I am still on duty so haven't been home . But be patient, I will get you those pictures. In the mean time, I have a question for Dje.

I was recently offered by my AD PP 5971, which will be delivered to me after Chinese New Year. I am not sure if I want to wear that watch because it's got diamonds on it. But I am verry attracted to the facts that it is 5970 in PT and, furthermore, it comes with the most beautiful black dial.

My AD told me that this piece is very rare. Could you give me some infor Dje? Furthermore, my AP also told me that Patek will produce a very limited numbers of 5070 in PT?

Few days ago i sold  5074, but i will have another in 2-3 weeks. Let me know if you still interested and i'll give you my contact #. Also i do have: 5100 Yellow Gold, 5100 Platinum, 5002 Rose Gold, 5101 Platinum.
