While you are considering, you may also want to compare all 3 of these new offerings from PP - a contrast to the vintage pieces from below. Each has its own character and shows some of the evolution of PP. Hope you enjoy them.

you have been very helpful
just one last q is it still hard to locate? and if so do you think this will last?
im buying it regardless but its nice to know you have a watch in demand, would not flip it ever
I got a call today from my AD that he had just recieved the 5980 and I could have it if I wanted. Within 30 minutes I was at his store. I had never seen this watch in person before. I really like my 5711 and I am blown away by the 5980. The entire nautilus line is fabulous. The chronograph is a great looking comfortable watch. I doubt I will use the chrono feature, but having it is fun.
If anyone (including me) is wondering why my AD sold it to me at list price I can shed some light. They know me well and I am a good customer. But that is only part of the reason. The main reason is that they know I will wear the watch. I have three sons in there early twenties who also help me wear my collection. None of my watches reside in bank vault. All come immediately out of boxes onto my wrist. I wear different watches everyday according to which one I feel like wearing that day. Whether I like it or not my watches soon get little scratches etc due to wear. They AD knows that my wearing watches around town gets them noticed which is what they want.
Moral of story is that building a loyal relationship with your AD pays dividends. People who really wear their Pateks are the ones who dealers want to sell high demand watches to. It helps the AD that the watches are seen on peoples wrists. This increases the demand from people who do not already know Patek. I have also been told by my AD that Patek monitors the secondary market and the worst thing that can happen to an AD is for a high demand watch to show up on the secondary market within months of the AD selling it.
Thanks for such a post!
Yes, watches are made to be worn, not to be stocked in safes.
Your story is a great story and should be used or looked as an example for all the ADs,who, sadly don't have the same behaviour.
At the same time, I think that we can't generalize about bad dealers...A great majority is good, some are making some bad things, while asking more than the retail on references like the 5980.
Enjoy yuor 5980, you deserve it as the 5980 deserves an owner like you!
Best.
