Hi,
For years I have lusted after the 3940. The only thing holding me back was the fact that I could not read all of the subsidiary dials without glasses. I am now 50+ and, while I can read them with glasses, it is not a quick glance. I have to stare and study to get the day, date and month right. To read the leap year and 24 hr portions is extremely difficult. Yesterday I looked at a new 5140 and low and behold the dial is easier to read than the 3940 but still not a "guick glance" kind of read.
I also looked at the 5146 and its a no brainer for me to read.
I know the 5140 is the best of the two but I don't know if I can live with a watch I can't really read all of the time. The good news is that whichever I buy I want it to be in Rose gold so I have a bit of time until Patek comes out with both models in rose gold.
Any thoughts? The 3940 seems to have proven itself as a watch that holds its value fairly well and is easy to sell on the secondary market. Will the 5140 and 5146 be the same? Is it crazy to own a perpetual for regular use or should it stay in the safe but for special occasions? Any other similar watches I should look at that I might have missed? If the dollar comes back in value will Patek prices come down?
Thanks to all of you any thoughts you can provide.
Tom Patrick
This patek 5396 currently comes in RG, i am hoping to see it in WG version
Another which only ceased production is patek 5136 in YG or WG, larger in size and much more legible ..
Also available, patek 5135 also comes in WG and RG version,
One very cool but limited piece, would be patek 5125 WG made for Wempe
MY favourite would have to be Patek 5050 ...
Happy hunting.
First time I've seen 5125 and it looks really good. The dial in WG case is so clear and easy to read. It's a classic Patek. Too bad it's limited edition that makes the price so prohibitive to buy. I recently purchased a 5296 coz the time is so easy to read but 5125 is a lot better, actually no comparison at all.
Anybody knows where to buy 5125 and how much?
