Patek Philippe

In Hong Kong, the MRSP of both watches are similar (about 1.3M HK$).

Just want to know which one you prefer more by spending such a large sum of money??  Personally I MUST take a 5004, so much complicated watch.....

Further, I wonder those who like high technical timepieces really love the diamonds??   To marry a perpertual chrono with a lot of diamonds seems quite contradicting (e.g. 3990 is not a good seller compared with 3970)...Any comment?

personally, I don't think there is nothing wrong to marry a grand complication with a lot of diamonds.

If you were offered two "identical" grand complicated watches (one with diamond and one without) for the same price, which one would you choose?

---- the one without diamond without a second thought because most value of a highly complicated watch is its MOVEMENT! Not its case, diamond, etc... OR

---- the one with diamond (without a second thought too) because it is good value;

I am none of the above... I would have a look of the watches first to see if the diamonds go well with the watch. If yes, I would pick the diamond one; otherwise, just the one without...

Of course, there is no way to have the same price for the above two watches.... usually, the market is asking for a unreasonable price for high-jewelry watches... so our impression is that ALL diamond watches are not worth the prices.... but does it mean that all watches (even grand complication) with diamond are bad?

For 5971P, the diamonds go so well with the watch... so I would pick it over the 5970. However, 5004 is a different animal...

For the same amount of money, I will definitely take 5004P. However, 5004P is almost hard to come by. I know one dealer in HK asked 2M HKD few months ago. The grey market dealers even charge much higher.  5971 is such a charistmtic watch and is much better looking than 3990P.

I would definitely take the 5004P not only because it stands as one of the true icons of Patek's numerous horological wonders but it is also pure, classic and unswayed by trends thus showing vividly the traits which endear Patek to its fans. Having said that, I too wonder if fans of high end technological watches really want diamonds on their wrists.

As for the 5970, with its nod to current trends of slightly oversized case diameters, I prefer it to be in its purer form, either in WG or RG, sans diamonds

That's my philosophy.

5004 is a fine machine, so is 5970/3970. Adding diamonds is just an aesthetic thing, never adding to its inherent values.
