Also...love the leaf hands...are those original to that ref.?

Yes, the leaf hands are original to this particular watch. as is the blued second hand. However, this ref. (1578) came in a number of variations, and I have seen an example with Dauphine hands, as well as early variations with a sub-dial rather than center second hand. I believe, however, that they all shared the cal. 27SC movement.

Perhaps Suitbert or another expert could add further insights into this particular reference.

SC stands for center seconds, so the small seconds variations had to have a different movement, probably 12-120.

approximately what time period was this watch made in and what is it's diameter?

Congratulations on a great acqusition...wear it well...

though it wears rather large for a vintage Patek. Given the movement number, it was produced between 1955 and 1960, though I won't know the exact year until I receive an archive extract.
