Patek Philippe

dear Purists!

If I may ask, is there anybody here who has experienced of returning a Patek to its authorized dealer because of some defect?  I purchased a PP5059R last December 8, 2006, and unfortunately, there is some defect in the watch.  Because it was new year, I was really observing the watch to change the dates, but the aperture indicating the year seems to be stucked.  But everything else are fine.  I was really disappointed. 

Will it be lawful to ask my AD for a full refund?

It may not be defective.  Sometimes the watch needs to be "cycled" before all the features engage properly depending on how it was initially set.  I've noticed this with a number of watches. 

If it's new you have lots of time before the warranty expires so why don't you use it for a while and see if it corrects.  Alternatively, use the correctors to set it for a date for last month then manually move the hands through the month and see it everything sets properly.  Make sure you do this at the right time of day (see manual) to make sure nothing is engaged while using the correctors.

If you're talking about the Leap Year indicator, that may take some time to move from II to III so if it appears to be  "stuck" between the years, I believe that may be normal.

I'd observe it for a few weeks - I suspect it will be fine.  If not, go back to the AD and ask him for an explanation and/or service.

 You are right.  Before I visit my AD, I think it is rational to really check the watch and all its functions.  For sure, a company like Patek Philippe has one of the stringest quality control around.

Over the years they have experienced some quality control issues like everyone else, however, their customer repair service is outstanding.  If there is any problem with the watch they will make it perfect or replace it.
