Hi 👋 All, a big and silent Patek collector showed me a piece I did not know existed !
By: GLau : August 19th, 2021-15:49
A Patek coin watch that used a US$20 coin from 1904 !
The watch, with a manual wind movement, is embedded into the thin coin. So thin and so cool 😎!
What is the reference number ? Are these sought after by collectors? Your thoughts on this piece ?

Very niece piece. You can occassionally find the very same by Rolex, Audemars Piguet, Vacheron, Elgin, Cartier, Corum, and even unbranded.

They do sometimes show up for auction.

Thanks for the links, it is amazing to see how (relatively) inexpensive these little treasures are in today’s watch market😉👍

By: GLau : August 20th, 2021-16:33
Upon checking the site provided by a member below, two coins were used for each watch.

There are also $10 and $5 coins by Patek
By: Allen : August 19th, 2021-18:15
In Nick Foulkes' Patek book, there is a paragraph about Philippe Stern flipping a $10 coin watch to Tierry symbolically passing the company on to the next generation.

Was this a real coin made by the US Mint?
By: Credor : August 20th, 2021-06:28
Or did Patek manufacture the coin?
I always wondered.
Vacheron has coin watches too.

My understanding is that it is made from an

authentic $20 dollar coin by US mint.
Otherwise it is a “fake” coin.

But looks like only the top watch face cover is from the actual dollar coin. The coin edge and the back is made by patek.

Just hope it is not inadvertently used for the so called, ‘flip a coin’ routine.
