Patek Philippe

I like this and more refined case designs in general but this is nothing new as it's almost the very same as the 5320G. [nt]

It does not fit very well for the chronograph.

Nothing new what? [nt]

You mean the syringe hands?

Very nice touch IMHO.

I was talking about the case. [nt]

don't like this case on a casual chrono [nt]

Yes, like most cases. Nothing wrong with this process. [nt]

Hi...how would you compare it to 5070 and 5170...I'm on market after one

 By: Velcoro : March 20th, 2019-13:02
Danke

Beautiful. But I like the size of 5170 more. [nt]

Also agree...

...though of course have not had the 5172 on the wrist...so could be open to having my mind changed.

All the best,
Niall

After contemplating for 24 hours..

(takes some time let this one sink in) I think it's an absolute killer.

The sportiest pure chronograph ever produced by Patek...

I hope the case is thicker to allow for the mm increase, but this looks good.

Thanks for the review, Miranda.

PS. Some amazing close-ups at the Patek site.

Nice but a 5170P nicer. [nt]

 By: Passionata_george : March 20th, 2019-13:10
and 5070J is the nicest;-)

Agreed

Seems the stepped lugs are a nod to the 5070?

waiting for some live impressions and wrist shots.

It's the Most interesting new piece for me

Nice review of an interesting successor of the 5170! I'll able to see the new collection in person only in late May, so I'm looking forward to many wristshots from those lucky enough to make it to Basel :-)

 By: FabR : March 20th, 2019-14:28
Please also some rare handcrafts and special pieces, if possible...;-) Have a great visit!

It's growing on me...

 By: vitalsigns : March 20th, 2019-13:13

...over the course of 24 hours.

Still not fully convinced, but I'm starting to like it more.

Is it 42mm? A bit too big IMO...

I initially disliked the round pushers, and would have preferred rectangular pushers...but perhaps that would not have looked good with the case style--I'm not sure.

The case work certainly looks nice, and very well detailed, but I think the lugs are maybe over-designed.

It's certainly more distinctive than the very plain 5170 (initial release with Roman numerals).

Cheers,

John

Agree

The blandness was always the 5170s problem (sans the P)

Agreed, the P was never bland [nt]

Also..

 By: Thomahof : March 20th, 2019-13:21
It's 41mm not 42

Well, that's better than 42 :) ...even if 42 is the universal answer to everything [nt]

I will wait to see it in the metal....I like the new case, the pushers, but I have some doubts on the dial ( which is an awkward blend of classicism and modernity ) and the hands.

Are the indices luminous?
Thanks for the first view on this novelty, Imran!
Best,
Nicolas

Yes

 By: Thomahof : March 20th, 2019-13:17
Luminous!

Thanks for the confirmation, Thomas. [nt]

 By: mahesh : March 20th, 2019-13:20
slowly moving from the ‘seriously classic / dressy’ to more ‘youthful’ take on the chrono - May be the blue makes me think so ?!

I like this but somehow 5070 sings to me more...

Best,
Mahesh.,

5070 was not very formal either?

 By: Thomahof : March 20th, 2019-13:26
I think this one has flaws that we will learn to appreciate, much like the 5070, and as opposed to the 5170 that was flawless, but lacked a bit of charm

flawless? are you joking?

 By: ruudvan639 : March 21st, 2019-01:41
In same sentence you say it flawless and that it lacked charm. oooerrr?
diamnonds on markers make it very unisex and not surprise that many women like this more than men. grey market prices for something produced for so little period show just how flawless is it. can find it at huge deiscount very easily.
but still you dont buy this watch.....given you think it as flawless.
you have to be young to make such commenting.
