for me it is a great watch but it has never caught traction with serious collectors. in a recent auction (i think in hongkong) it has properly bottomed out.
so buy yes, but at a nice discount and don't believe the typical AD speak 'very rare watch, you are so lucky to be able to get one etc etc'. i got close at least
three times but always chickened out::

Perhaps partly because it is still in production? If you were interested in this watch, would you not be more inclined to buy it through an authorised dealer, rather than at an auction?
I just took delivery of mine today at my local pp dealer, though I am definitely not a serious collector. I just happen to really like this watch.

I think 5235 are not for everyone not the beginner collector of PP.. this is more for those very seasoned collectors.
There are only that many season collector who will buy and keep while the rest just couldn’t keep it reasons could be they are after the next great piece and maybe they just can’t stand the “dull” face on the regulator hence decided to part with it hence created at over supply and hence price bottom out.
Being a owner myself, in all honesty the 5235 is very looks dull and boring from a distance. The dial just too cold and too surgically clean to that point where it just don’t feel like a PP anymore.. the watch truly shine when you put on your wrist and observe from close up that you realise it is a piece of art. Even the pin buckle is unique to 5235.

This is quite opposite of a collectors watch - they want classical watches rich in history, while this one is the opposite - many things Patek has never done before.
Mr Stern will decide..
.. whether 5235 will be forgotten, become a collectors' piece in the future or, perhaps more likely, neither.

I checked around and the discounts on all Patek watches in this price range are the same, with that said I cannot shake the feeling with all others you are compromising because of money and not going straight for a PC.
This watch has enough unique things for me to justify not feeling like 'second best' when buying it. I think it is simply too unorthodox for a typical Patek owner, however I don't think Thierry Stern never thought it will be a hit with the general audience.

I initially like this timepiece. But...
As time goes along, I wasn’t sure anymore. Yes, it’s a unique Patek, and the first time that Patek did such timepiece. But for that amount, I’ll rather go for a Patek Chronograph such as the 5960 with a more useful complication. I believe it is not a smash hit model. And I understood from the news that there were some production issues and delays on this model.
No one can really tell the future. But I agree not to get carried away by the usual buzz about how limited the watch or that it’s not today’s hit but it will be tomorrow.

I have seen this watch at five different Patek stores in the last six months, it should be easy to get. I bought one in Feb of 2014 (at a discount) when they were first released and ended up selling the watch a year later back to my AD for a big loss. I concluded after a year I liked it but didn't love it. The dial texture is nice but I found it too plain and lacking something. Also, I didn't love the case shape. I gave it a year to grow on me but it never did. One recently sold at the AQ auction on Oct 27 in Hong Kong for a great price. You should be able to get a great deal on the secondary market on a slightly used one. I have attached a photo of the one I had. Good luck with the search!
