Patek Philippe

Not terribly long ago, I got a 3970R (second series) with a solid case back.  I know that Patek also manufactured this reference with a sapphire case back.  Does anyone know if it is currently possible to get a sapphire case back for the watch, whether from Patek or otherwise?  I wouldn't want to adapt the original case back that I have, but rather get a separate one with the sapphire window.

Of course there is a lot to look at and having both you could switch them around as you please. But there is some old world a bout this watch that matches this watch perfectly. If it was me I think I would keep it solid.

I have a 3970J second series with a solid caseback and once thought about this very idea. I do not know the answer but my conclusion ended up being I will stick with the solid as it gives it a nice vintage charm/vibe. Your watch is beautiful and I think so undervalued today!! magic!

It would be nice to get a clear case back. Write to Patek and ask. I have never heard of them doing this but you won’t know till you ask; I hope they will.
Regardless, you have one of the nicest watches ever made. Wear it in good health.

I think the solid back is the way to go.

Therefore Patek can’t provide a new one. I asked for a 3940

I will contact Patek to see what they say. Based on some comments, seems unlikely to lead anywhere, but no harm in asking.
