Is this blue dial hue similar to the 2 tone RG/SS Nautilus 5980?

Good question. I’m afraid I don’t own the two-tone, just not my cup of 🍵, so I can’t do a side by side comparison. Based on recollection, I believe the 1AR
Has a blue face very similar to that of the 5976. I certainly recall the 1AR with a much more vibrant blue than those of the 5711, 5712, and 5980
Tried this on a few times..
Love the blue dial.. but that thin bezel stopped me from getting one. IMHO I think the thin bezel somehow lost the "potehole" theme of the original design.
However, if you have extra large wrist, this larger dial may work very well. My wrist only 7 inches. I am sticking with 5980.

You’ve got a keeper in that 5980 😀. The bezel width to dial diameter ratio is different on the 5976 given its sheer size
I’m a small wrist guy, but really have don’t have any problem with the diameter of the 5976. The weight on the other hand!
I tried on 5976 few times. Heavy piece.
The 5980/1r is quite a heavy piece too weight in at almost 240g. I find it too top heavy. Only if it comes with a micro adjustment on the fly ........
Yes, the 5980/1R is also a heavy piece, though I’d guess the 5976 is 100+ grams heavier just comparing by hand. With either I’ve found sizing to be critical to minimize that top heavy feel
I’ve ad more success with the 5980 than with the 5976 in this regard.
On your second picture, the blue colour contrast between the main and sub dial is particularly well enhanced

....the dial switches from dark blue, nearly black to deep blue, or even petrol blue
