Patek Philippe

Hi Raymond, you did get some LE New York watches, right ?

Did you not ask for this reference ?

Cheers,

Gordon

I did ask for this but unfortunately not important enough to get allocation 😭

I asked for 4 watches and got 2, still happy though.

My wife got the 7200/50G and I am getting the 5522A, still waiting for delivery.

The other 2 are this NYC men’s 5230 and ladies 7130G.

I’m know you definitely are since you have those enamel WT, Beijing Maison editions and 5575G.
However, I agree I’m very happy with the allocation.
Cheers to you too!

relative term.

China (and other countries) VIPs buy unique pieces. I do not want to know what one has to buy or pay before a unique piece can be bestowed on the person.

Cheers,

Gordon

That's a splendid version...

Well, about your question, they are so different watches. I think it comes to what one wants but hard to find elements to compare.

Your friend has made an excellent move as it is a beautiful watch and interesting model regarding the context and colors used. He has obviously expressed his preference for the 5230G NYC and that's a great catch.

However, I personally can't compare both references you mention. Indeed, on the one hand you have an exceptional enamel work with a more classical case, on a bracelet, while on the other hand you have an engraving with a totally different "spirit", and with a crafmanship that requires quite some skills and knowhow.

In the end, the watches we enjoy are not necessarily the most expensive or the level of craftmanship. They should sing to us. Many creteria to take into account which are very personal smile

All depends on the level you compare. I would have maybe chosen the 5230 NYC because of budget, chance of allocation, everydaywear potential (as I use my watches over a long period). But, if craftmanship or poetry were my goal, then I would have chosen the 5131P.

As for value, as you know we won't mention this part here (as no one even know the answer) :p

Thanks a lot for sharing Gordon, much appreciated and congratulations to your friend!

Best, Mark

Hi Mark, thanks for your comments and the value reminder !

My intention in value was really based on the owner's surprising comment regarding his take that this reference is better than 5131 ! You know how I feel about the 5131, right ?

Apologies if I crossed the line !

Cheers,

Gordon

No problem Gordon!

You didn't cross it, I just reminded that point but in a total neutral way, no problem. We're only "chatting" smile

Best, Mark

Nice watch but the 5131s are at a different level. This watch may appeal more to someone living in New York due to the skyline - yes it is discreet but the colours on the enamel dial (like on your lovely 5131G!) are quite spectacular. The fact that no two enamel dial watches are exactly similar speaks volumes - hence their second hand resale value. Yes they are difficult to come by but so is your friend's watch. Also the number of enamel dials that had to be destroyed before one is produced make the 5131s that bit more special.

I am glad your friend loves his watch but the 5131s are in a different league altogether in my opinion.

I love my 5131G and also think highly (but not as high as my 5131) of this 5230 New York because the blue discrete dial color matches the blue strap very well.

They are complementary don't you think ?

Gordon

They match beautifully but then again,so does Alkiro's Chronometre Bleu's strap and watch (yes I have been secretly admiring your posts Alkiro!! smile)).
The 5230 New York is a nice watch but not special enough in my opinion.
