My final piece arrived today, and I believe my three-watch collection is finally complete! What's your magic number?

My fav is of course the 5110G.
Now, 3? I think almost all of us said the same thing when Watch #3 arrived in the collection, but I don't think I know anyone who then really stopped

I want different watches for different occasions, moods and outfits. So I think that something between 10 and 12 would be ideal for me at the moment. This can change depending on circumstances in life.

well, i'm not sure it is 3 and i'm sure many Purists are pondering this question over years...
the most interesting answer i read in this forum itself is n-1, where 'n' equals number of watches you buy to trigger a divorce by your wife ;-)
trust me, our friends in this forum brings a lot of wisdom in addition to watches ;-)

But the magic number could also be n+p-q where 'n' equals the number of watches you already have, 'p' the number of watches you still desire and 'q' the number of watches you possess but don't want to wear anymore...
Another way to find this number is to consider that you need watches which go with evening dress, others for corporate wear, others for casual wear, others for sports gears... In each situation, you need white, black, blue... dial watches (in different materials) to match with the color of your dress (for instance, I love platinum and white gold watches with blue dials and straps to match with blue suits and shoes) and have the choice between 3, 4, 5, 10... watches of different sizes/shapes/complications for each situation (depending on your mood of the day)...
At the end, I found that the magic number could be not very far from a few hundreds!
And that number could have been only a start if my wife didn't come and said 'stop'...

That's a fantastic trio
I didn't know about the left reference, it has a very nice 70's touch I like very much.
Anyway, as I said before this version of the Nautilus is really something I find very elegant, which is surprising for me for a diamond-set dial.
As for the number, I think I'm also the kind of person who likes to have a limited number of watches to wear. Hence, 3 or 4 would be my choice too.

But I am pretty sure that I am the only person on this forum with only one watch at present, the Patek 7200 London Edition. This will last until Saturday when I collect my Moser. I have two others on deposit, the RW Smith Series 2 (ETA 2020) and the discontinued Patek 5940G (ETA anytime up to 2028 assuming I keep paying £300 per month against it based on my special arrangement with my AD! ) But to answer your question, my ideal number is 5(all of the above plus perhaps a Gronefeld Remontoire or a Lange 1815 chronograph (yes, that gorgeous black dial beauty!) or a Voutilainen! For me, it is important to be able to have the time to wear my watches (and I am not talking about once a month) so 5 is about my maximum so that I am able to spread the love around equally!

... And one of those three is a Nautilus also! (A ref. 5711, to be precise)
