Bulgari

Everyone,

I recently purchased a two tone gold and steel SD38SG model Bvlgari. I would like to know some more information such as when the watch was made, any changes to the watch over time, people's thoughts on the watch, also what was the retail value of this watch when it was new etc. The watch is currently on a two tone steel and gold band. I have attached a photo, please let me know your thoughts! I am pretty excited as this is my first Bvlgari.Also forgive the picture it was taken with my camera phone, the watch looks better in person.

Welcome to the PuristSPro Bulgari forum.  And congrats on your new watch.  The Bulgari Scuba was first introduced in 1994, then a chrono version the following year.  What attracted you to this design?  Did you consider any other watches in the Bulgari line or other brands?  Would be cool for you to share your thoughts about it.

I always wanted a Bvlgari ever since my Father bought a Cadillac XLR and he got the limited edition watch that matched the car. I think it is numbered out of 1,000, but I do not live near him. That's how I learned about the company, in terms of why this particular model, I wanted one on a rubber strap, but when I realized I could get this one for very little premium over the rubber strap version how could I say no? I had to buy two additional links from Bvlgari in NY to get the watch the right size for my wrist, (not cheap!), and they told me some information they think the watch is from 1998 and cost $7,200 brand new, but I was curious how long they made it for ect...

Thanks for sharing your story about your dad.  I'm a fan of the Corvette and have visited the assembly plant in Bowling Green where they produce Corvettes and XLR's side by side.  I didn't realize that Bulgari had a LE watch that matched the Cadillac.  Would be interesting to research and learn more about that.

A variation of the scuba is still in production and still retains a lot of the characteristics since it's introduction.  It might take a while to find info (if any) on the production numbers.  If I do, I'll let you know.

The watch is 200 mt waterproof and made in Switzerland, with ETA caliber customized for Bvlgari.

In the 1994 it was a great inovation adn had a great success...

Now it came out the new version which is not in two tone anymore....

Everyone it took 3 weeks, but I can now wear the watch. I had to order two new links from Bvlgari, then I had my local jeweler polish the watch band to match the new links exactly (it was obvious that the new links were much cleaner etc., but not anymore). See the attached picture. Any ideas as to what this watch is worth today? The picture posted at the top of the thread was how it looked initially.

Cool you got the matching links. It's hard to tell from your pic how well it matches but if you are pleased with the results then I guess it's good.  Unfortunately we do not discuss value/price/etc, maybe your jeweler can give you an estimate.  What size is the case?

It matches exactly Bvlgari had two new links that I purchased from them in NY. My jeweler used those links to clean up the rest of the bracelet to match them perfectly. You cannot tell which links are the new vs. which are the old. It is incredible, he took every link apart and clearned/polished them all. Really an amazing process. Does anyone have any catalog photos of this watch from back in the day?

Hi xlr8by!  Welcome to the forum.  The information that we have about this particular watch is very limited.  I think in large part because it was a model that was only released in Asia (so I've read).  However, I was able to find some pictures on the web.  Enjoy!

 

Can anyone confirm that this watch was only offered in Asia? I know that the same two tone model was worn in the Mission Impossible Movie, and Bvlgari in NY had two links in stock. Does it appear in any catalogs anyone is aware of?

When did the two tone bracelet stop being offerred? Anyone know anymore information?
