Fist Lange - All help is appreciated
Guys,
Need your help w the selection. I think these reflect the brand the best and one must have at least one (my view of course).
Mostly curious how they feel on the wrist.
Any input/comment is greatly appreciated.

It's all personal preference of course, BUT...

The Daymatic is an underappreciated model. In fact, I've never met anyone who actually bought one. But I love it, and I know several other collectors who do too. Whenever I visit the AD, I look at it. Functionally, it tells me everything I want to know but nothing more (i.e., I know what month and year it is, and I really don't care what the moon phase is -- but time, date, and occasionally day of the week are things I may not know). And Lange's automatic movements are just beautiful. In addition, right-handed people like the idea of having the time displayed on the right side of the watch face because it's not hidden under their shirt cuffs (I'm left-handed, and I rarely wear dress shirts, so this doesn't matter to me). On the regular Lange 1 and Grand Lange 1, the time display is on the left. So you should give serious consideration to the Daymatic.
That being said, the original handwound Lange 1 is iconic, and the current Grand Lange 1 certainly honors that tradition.

Another vote for the Wochentag-Automatik
Just flip the watch and see what a gorgeous movement the Daymatic is offering, compared to the other L1 and in general.
It is one of the most beautiful autos on the market and oozing of luxury and style.
Have you seen the Daymatic in platinum yet?
If the funds are there than go for the top version but still the RG and YG versions are very, very beautiful.

Saw for the first time a WG Zeitwerk in the window of an AD ... at 62K Euros the hype has come to its peak, I suppose.

thte Grand 1 will be my first, yes it will.
The Daymatic is intriguing, but I must I overlooked it when comparing models at the AD.
First of all... choose a handwind one!
The winding experience of a Lange watch is a big part of the pleasure.
Then between the Lange One classic and the Grand Lange One... only a test on the wrist will tell you which one to choose!

As for your question, I too believe a hand wound Lange 1 will be a good first lange to have.
Personally I will go for the Lange 1 at 38.5mm. My wrist are small but I know many with larger wrist also enjoying the standard lange 1 size

I am not surprised you love the Timezone.
It is my first Lange (in YG) - and so far the only one!
I cannot see how you would regret your choice.

All three are great choices for your first Lange..........
Both the Grand Lange 1 and Lange 1 look great on your wrist, the Daymatic always looked awkward to me with the flipped dial. I would go with the original, good luck with your decision.

The L1 looks perfect on your wrist.
I would pick it. Also I think you should go with a manual movement so that you can better appreciate the beauty of the finishing which ALS is known for. But what matters most is to pick the watch that sings to you most. Happy hunting....

Similar struggle...
I'm currently struggling between a few....
- Lange 1 PG
- Lange 1 MP PG
- 1815 chronograph (old dial)
- Datograph (old dial)
- PP 5170G
IMO Im not picking the grand L1, not only because that I have a small wrist, but also the grand L1 seems more spacial on the right side of the dial
also the daymatic, that I prefer my L1 in hand wound (despite the fact that I do love Lange's rotor=]). I feel like a hand wound L1 will be a perfect watch to be worn occasionally. By a few click you adjust the correct date, just fits right.
Then Im in the struggle, because of the huge discount on the pre-owned Lange, the L1 MP or 1815 chronograph have similar price like an all new L1. A more elegant touch with a moon phase, or getting the mighty calibre L951.0
I wish someone can give me some help as well=/
Time Zone in WG!!!
Recently I tried on several of the Lange models on my wrist and immediately knew the Time Zone in WG is the one for me. Spent quite some time re-trying the others including other brands such as JLC and Vacheron, but the Time Zone kept pulling me back to itself. Finally bought it immediately and have loved it more and more since. Here are some pics…
I can;t tel you what to do but...
... I can tell you what my thought process was.
I wanted a manual movement, not an automatic. The winding on the Lange 1 is hands down the best I've ever felt. It's a pure pleasure to wind. The crown is the perfect size. So the Daymatic was out.
As for size, I don't like to wear dress watches larger than 40 mm, so the Grand lange 1 was out.
Once I settled on the Lange 1, I had to choose which metal. I am more of a white metal guy, so that left me with white gold or platinum.
For some reason, I LOVE lumed hands, even on a dress watch. Since the white gold version didn't have lumed hands, that was out.
Finally, I really liked the way the moon phase complication brought a bit of color and depth to the dial.
So, I went with the Lange 1 moon phase in platinum. It's my favorite watch, and probably will be for as long as I have wrists! That's not to say this is what you should do. The rose gold Lange 1 looks great (I just saw one yesterday), plenty of people love +40mm dress watches, and plenty of people prefer automatic movements. You can't go wrong.
The Lange 1 i Rose Gold is my next high end watch as soon as my
bank balance allows.
I am not a Lange owner as yet, but I guess the Grand Lange is for people who want a larger size.
I find the Daymatic interesting and under-appreciated but as a first Lange, I would say Lange 1.
Forgive me for being outspoken in a community of superb collectors and experts, but I feel there is a lot of nonsense being introduced in the industry, including a lot
of overpriced junk. In this very environment, the Lange 1 stands out as a true Timeless Star. I cannot wait to have mine eventually.
One major blog paid tribute to the Lange 1 in a most lovely way and one major publication wrote a two page article on it. Do pm me and I will share these details with you.
