Lange is - for the seasoned aficionado - a fascinating company. All of their watches belong to the very top league of commercial watchmaking, but there are a few primi inter pares . Those are the ones that will always be associated with the brand. The Lange 1, the Datograph and the Pour Le Merite certainly belong to this group. Each of those added the 'significant something' to watchmaking, an ultra-cool large date, one of the most delicious chronograph movements or a classical tourbillon with fusee and chain (in a wristwatch).
The Zeitwerk added the fourth entry into this elite club, bringing the concept of 'windows' to a new level.
Oh yes, if I am in a generous mood I could add the 1815 Moonphase to this group as well. Redefinition of a moonphase with very subtle tricks.
