It was around since 1999. I am undecided if this is the right change but I look forward to seeing it in Jan.

...in size and appearance. Now if they make the DS more like the Dato (by adding a date) I'll be in big trouble!
Will be interested to see this one in the metal...
Best,

according to the press release. I would assume the new dial DS is the same.

Im new to learning about Lange watches but just wondering is the lack of a zero for single digit dates a Lange signature design or could the new Datograph get the extra zero?
Also IMHO the newer model looks better.
IMO, the date is easier to read as it is, plus it avoids confusions (02 with 20, etc.)
It is also part of the strong personality and unique charm of the Datograph. I hope they don't change that. They have already lost the 3 roman numerals and the slightly thick proportions...
Just thought the dial would be better looking during the single digit dates. Would be interesting to see what others think but I bet most promo shots of the watch show a double digit date maybe?
Completely agree on the authenticity side of things and I think I may agree with you in regards the roman numerals too. As you seem to have a keen eye for detail I would be very interested to hear your opinion on something that also changed which is very subtle but I think is an improvement on the original. I haven't seen many people mention it yet but I think the reduction in the size of the minute markers around the dial is a vast improvement and to my eye makes as big a difference as the absence of the roman numerals. Definitely makes the dial a tad cleaner with the markers reduced size but also the removal of the 5, 10, 15, 20 etc text around the circular edge. I would be interested on your thoughts on this new feature when you see them side by side below?
Would be interesting actually if we had a photoshop expert on here to see the reduced minute markers but also to keep the roman numerals in place.
Suppose this is all what if's anyhow as we have what is coming and it's still the best chrono on the planet IMHO either way.
Cheers
Yes, the difference in the size of the hands is a GREAT improvement, IMO the best improvement of the new Dato.
What i think they have done is, thanks to the wider case, they have enlarged the MINUTE hand, while the HOURS hand remains the same, exactly like on the Datograph Perpetual (same diameter, if i remember well, as the new Dato).
My opinion is that this is an excellent improvement.
But, for me, the Classic will always remain the Classic. And yes, that is the BEST CHRONO ON EARTH. With such a movement inside, a very difficult benchmark to beat by any other brand, any time.

Fred

Thanks Fred, but I was more talking about the markers indicating each minute around the dial which have been shortened in length with the 5, 10 etc removed also. All great improvements in my opinion. Agree with you about the hands too though, much better.
Cheers
You are absolutely right!
The detail that you mention, i had not noticed on the first press images...
It looks good, but honestly, i prefer to see the tiny 55, 60, 5, 10 on the dial. These enrich the dial, they make it more interesting, even more so with a loupe, as the finishing of such details is always fabulous at Lange.
We love to watch the Dato dial because a lot is happening on it, study all the details, etc. If they remove too many details for the sake of simplification, then it becomes less interesting.
But of course, there is the PR indicator which, personally, i like very much (although on the other hand i don't care for more than 36 hours PR).
BW,
Fred
Thanks Fred, good to get another point of view on these little changes. Will be great to see it on users rather than the PR photos we see at the moment...
Cheers
...then my advice is to get hold of a Classic Datograph while you can, and while the new one starts its long journey to your AD...
