A. Lange & Söhne

We are in year 3 of the leap year cycle. Where should the leap year indicator point to on the Lange perpetual? Should it be between the 2 & 3 pictured here...

Or between 3 & 4 ? Thanks in advance.

between the 2 and the 3 - part way (2 months) into the "3"rd year of the leap year cycle.  I think the indicator moves through the "3" quarter during the year.  My best guess.  So I would think it is OK.

here Brad, taken on the night. I think it is correctly positioned at the early part of the 3rd. year. Within a few mins. all the indicators were properly alighed (month,day etc.). Quite pleased with its performance.

 I must admit that I set mine wrong!.

I have a DP and had to look in the manual as to how to set it, and must admit, I now find the way the manual is written to be wrong or at the least ambiguous. It has a chart in the back showing that 2011 is year 3 in the cycle. The manual then says to set the indicator to the year as per that table and then forward the month display until it shows the correct month. I did this and ended up with my year indicator between 3 and 4. Last night I happened to be up late, so was enjoying the prospect of the change from 28  to 01 etc, but it just changed to 29...very dissapointing indeed! I gathered I probably had set the year wrong, but its not the easiest thing to do when the indicator doesnt actually point at the number as such but somewhere inbetween, and anyway as I said I thought I had followed the instruction manual perfectly, obviously not

Anyway when I look back to some pics of my watch in july last year the year indicator was on the number 2, so I have now set mine by going back to that and forwarding on the relevant months from there to get to february  and that puts the indicator between 2 and 3 , so now I will reset my watch as if its the 28th tonight and hopefully will see a transition through to the 1st march

Maybe its just me thats a bit thick, but I really do think the manual is badly worded on this.

Yep I thought the same as rwk, should be midway between 3 and 4 as its approaching the 4th year in the cycle...and this is what I was led to believe from the manual.

However it seems that as I have now adjusted mine, it should show currently between the 2 and the 3 to indicate it is part way through year 3 of the cycle, ie it will only reach the 3 when actually halfway through the third year of the cycle.

 At halfway through the year ie late June/early July then it would point directly at 3 as that is where the split is, a bit like centuries if you like 1949 is the nineteen century, 1951 is the twentieth, so therfore after the three it is moving towards the start of year 4...I dont think I have explained this very well....suffice to say it should point exactly at the number of the year when that year is half way through, so in June/july this year the indicator will be spot on the number three, and again in june/july 2012 it will be spot on the red 4

the dial is misleading, the position of the number "3" is the MIDDLE of the year.  The marker in front of the year is the beginning of the year, so the hand is pointing a little pass the markerm that is the beginning of the 3rd year which is correct.  PP shows it differently, the hand points at the number when the year starts.  Does it sound right?

Ivanclai....thats what I was trying to say the indicator should point at the relevant year number when half way through that year, so in this year 2011, come june/july the indicator should be smack on the number 3 and then slowly migrate towards the 4 in the second half of 2011, ending up smack on the number 4 in june 2012.
