Did you ever try a matte, non glossy strap? 
I might be wrong, but I have the feeling that the dial should be the only eye-catcher here. 
Like in this photo from Fratello, for example.

It is...hard to capture in pictures and changes quite a bit with lighting

I may switch it up at some point but the strap is not too distracting and doesn't, in my opinion, draw any attention from the dial
