Description

I'm very reluctantly considering selling my Speake-Marin Serpent Calendar. This is the Mark I model, which features the original, very distinctive Piccadilly case, gorgeous white enamel dial, and long serpent hand. These features, in my opinion, are the essence of this watch, and they make it much more dramatic and distinctive (also much rarer) than the current model, which has a slimmed down case, shorter serpent hand and lacquer dial. Condition overall is very good, but it's got the small marks here and there of a carefully worn to the office daily wearer. It came to me that way, and I always meant to send it to my watchmaker for a polishing, but most of the comments from my watch friends are always "how do you keep it so shiny and perfect", so nothing has been noticeable enough for me to bother to do anything in terms of polishing. This one has the blue numerals rather than black, which was a rare variant, and I believe it's one of only two of its kind. (I think there were fewer than 12 of these 38mm SCs made in steel altogether, most with black numerals). The original black alligator strap looks great on the outside, has some wear on the inside (the tail end lining is a bit separated and could use a dab of glue, and one of the keepers has the same issue with the lining. Perfectly functional and looks good, so I've continued to wear it, but I do have a brand-new OEM replacement black alligator strap just like it, and will include that in the sale. (They are STIFF, heavy straps that go for $400, take a while to break in, and last a long time! smile Will ship worldwide, FedEx international priority.

Sometimes I fiddle with this when bored
It looks and functions like those fidget spinners. I like the reassurance of the lug design, because it has to be screwed in, instead of the ubiquitous springbar. Wish they made more watches with screwed in bars - the FF from Blancpain comes to mind. Wish Peter Speake were still in his namesake comp
