Description

As the son of jewellery designer Pentti Sarpaneva, and nephew of the internationally acclaimed designer and artist Timo Sarpaneva, it was always the case that Stepan’s career would take a creative direction. Educated at the Finnish School of Watchmaking and then WOSTEPSarpaneva (the brand) was formed in Helsinki, Finland, in 2003. Inspired by his time at manufactures including PiagetParmigiani, Vianney Halter and Christophe Claret, Stepan demonstrates his passion for the craft in each watch to come out of the workshop.

"This 44 mm DLC K1 was my very first DLC-coated test piece, from 2008 and an important study of the look and feel. Prototypes had to be made from the real stuff!”

The Korona K1  has undergone several iterations throughout its lifetime, with this the very first DLC-coated stainless steel prototype (Case No. 0:000) a pre-cursor to the original, launched in 2008. A study of both the look and feel of DLC treatment to the 44mm, stainless steel case, this watch introduced a more traditional look to the Sarpaneva brand. Taking the ‘scalloped’ design of Stepan’s original ‘Time Tramp’, the K1applied this design to the bezel whilst maintaining a more traditional case design. The case is also thinner than later pieces, at 9.6mm, helping the watch to sit closely against the wrist.

Its time to NAME! THAT! LUME!!!
Dear members, As a small token of my appreciation to the WPS community from whom I have learned so much, and as a nice kickoff to the first week of our new IWC forum, I'm offering up my titanium IWC cufflinks to the winner of a fun contest. All you have to do is identify the brand and model in each

SalonQP 2014: my selection of watches
As I told you previously, the SalonQP 2014 was an impressive gathering of known and less known brands. The set was so large that I had to be very busy during two full days to see the main part (and not all of them) of the exhibitors! I propose you to browse my selection of wristshots... almost all t

After sales service from independents
Hi all I have been collecting watches for the last 15 years or of them have come from the mainstream brands so far. In the last couple of years i have become more interested in the independent brands. I am a great believer in maintenance and always have my watches serviced on a regular basis. One o

SARPANEVA KORONA K0 WUOKSI
Sarpaneva Korona K0 Wuoksi is inspired by a Finnish legend of a village smith whose daughters were snatched down into the murky mansions of a lustful underwater creature Näkki. The smith descended into the watery depths to rescue his daughters, but unable to reach the bottom, he had to turn back. Th

Sarpaneva K0 Uniikki!
From what started out as a discussion at Basel, this weekend saw the delivery of my Sarpaneva K0 and I am just blown away by how it has turned out. Before I go one, I must say that Stepan is a really great guy to work with and his creative mind (and patience) in coming up with solutions to my reques

Let's see some "black" watches.
Do you have one in your collection? Whether it's ceramic, PVD/DLC, forged carbon or even plastic, it would be interesting to see the variety of these 'dark knights'. It may also help me decide on my next piece. Looking forward to seeing your contribution. Cheers Fernando
