Description

Up for sale from my personal collection is this stunning circa 1964 gilt/gloss Rolex 5513 Submariner, one of the all-time classic Vintage Rolex divers in one of its most attractive configurations. This watch is in Excellent overall vintage condition and has a beautiful original and unmolested glossy black lacquer/gilt print dial. This Submariner has been verified by Rolex as 100% genuine and comes with the paper to prove it. The asking price for this all-time great Gilt 5513 is now REDUCED to $8050 USD on the Near Mint USA Rivet Oyster pictured or $7750 head-only on a NATO strap, your choice. The final price includes fully insured worldwide shipping. Payment by Bank Wire only on this transaction. Payment must be made in US DOLLARS. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting. Click Here for Large Dial Scan CASE & BACK: Fat lugged case has been polished in the past and is a bit rounded/smoothed from wear but the lugs are still plenty thick. Polished sides have the typical scratches from regular use and some dulling. No dings to speak of. Also no significant corrosion to the back of the case. Model number & complete 1.1 million serial number (ca. 1964) are quite clear between their respective lugs. Conservatively and by my strict standards, I rate the case as Excellent cosmetic condition. The mirrored outer caseback has some scratches and small nicks but overall is also Excellent. The inner caseback is free of any corrosion and is stamped "5513." It is absolutely corrosion free and does not have a date/quarter stamp so it almost certainly a later replacement, probably due to a problem with the original back (stripped threads, corrosion, etc). DIAL & HANDS: Absolutely gorgeous pitch black gilt/gloss T-25 dial reflects like a lake on a moonless night--stunning. With a loupe, it is possible to detect some fine crazing to the original lacquer finish but this is not possible for me to capture with my camera nor the naked eye really. The dial luminous is all-original Tritium although some of the domes have "exploded." The gilt print is clear and shining and a perfect example of the very handsome fonts used by Rolex in the mid-1960s (in other words, this ain’t no Bart Simpson dial wink). Overall this gorgeous dial is easily in Excellent original condition. Original "heavy" gilt Tritium hands are likewise Excellent with some cracking of the luminous but are free of corrosion. Very simply put: an all-time classic Rolex Submariner layout! CROWN: Original, period correct Twinlock crown without external O-ring or dots shows some external wear but screws down tightly, winds properly & sets the time smoothly. CRYSTAL: I recently installed a fresh NOS high-sided domed Tropic 19 for that awesome vintage look and it is in Near Mint condition with just a few small nicks which could easily be polished out. BEZEL: I believe this bezel to be more recent than the watch with the sharper knurling for easier grip. Likewise, the insert looks to be a Mark III (still fat but not as fat as the 60s) font, so probably from the 70s or early 80s. The bezel pearl is Tritium and nicely aged. The bezel & insert are both Excellent with only minor marks and the bezel rotates in both directions with normal finger pressure, albeit a little stiffly at times. MOVEMENT: Correct for this era of 5513s, under the hood is a non-Chronometer automatic cal. 1530 with 26-jewels (non-North American market). It was last serviced by my former watchmaker in 2006. It is running fine and keeping very good time with a strong power reserve and has never given me a moment of trouble since I have owned it. BRACELET/BAND: As stated above, you have a choice of buying this 5513 on a NATO for $8050 USD or on the 11-link C&I USA Rivet Oyster pictured on the Sub for $8350 USD. The bracelet is date coded "I-70" and is quite tight and easily in Near Mint condition overall. PAPERS: This wonderful 5513 Submariner comes with an authentication paper from Rolex Canada dated 2005, as well as a Service Division green and gold box. Always nice to know a Rolex has been run through their system and come up roses! I make NO guarantees for the water resistance of this watch. I'm sure it can easily be made water resistant if it is not already, although perhaps not with the vintage crystal and original crown, This great 100% genuine Vintage Rolex is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund (less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer). This refund is unconditional and once I get the watch back in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL. Thanks for looking, T. tomvox1 @ hotmail.com
