12/27/2012 This is a one owner watch purchased in Stuttgart Germany in 1992. The model is a Rolex GMT Master, 16700. The watch is totally original including the band, clasp, bezel and insert, sapphire crystal and movement. The watch was factory service October of 2011 or about 14 months ago and is running in excellent condition. The band, case and clasp are like the original finish as the factory does whenever it overhauls a Rolex.

📖 About This Reference

The GMT-Master reference 16700 was introduced as a transitional model, serving as a more traditional alternative to the then-new GMT-Master II reference 16710. It maintained the original GMT-Master functionality, allowing for the tracking of two time zones simultaneously through its independent 24-hour hand linked to the main hour hand. This reference represents the final iteration of the original GMT-Master line, preceding the full transition to the GMT-Master II architecture. It was produced concurrently with the early GMT-Master II models, offering a choice for collectors who preferred the simpler GMT mechanism. This reference features a 40mm stainless steel case, characteristic of many Rolex professional models of its era. It is powered by the automatic Caliber 3175, which provides a power reserve of approximately 48 hours. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal, enhancing its durability and scratch resistance, and offers a water resistance of 100 meters. The bidirectional rotating 24-hour bezel, often seen with a "Pepsi" (blue and red) or "Coke" (black and red) insert, allows for the tracking of a second time zone. For collectors, the 16700 holds significance as the last of the true GMT-Master series, distinct from the GMT-Master II's independently adjustable 24-hour hand. Its production period, spanning from the late 1980s to the late 1990s, places it at an interesting juncture in Rolex's history. It appeals to those who appreciate the classic GMT-Master design and functionality, often sought after for its robust construction and the availability of various bezel insert options.

Rolex GMT MASTER 16700: This is the moment to celebrate my 25th year in collecting watches.
The author's first serious watch was a Rolex 16700 inspired by Magnum TV series. He eventually acquired it after 20 years but regretfully sold it. The GMT Master remains close to his heart as the perfect watch with a unique look and character.

Identifying future classic Rolex from the 1990-2018 era - Part 3: The “Swiss” only effect with four examples
This is Part 3 of the series that aims to identify future classics from within the ranks of modern Rolex watches - areas perhaps that vintage collectors have not paid attention to. Historically, if one looks back at the many different vintage Rolex watches that have drawn collectors attention, one f

Just sharing why I love this...
Dear Purists, as I'm new in this forum, let me just share with you why I love the GMT I'm wearing - I know that oceans of words have already been spent on every GMT Master and I don't want to be redundant on saying it's perfect as a sport watch and can be worn with a suit too. When I was 22, I didn'

Question on Rolex Explorer 39mm version
Dear Friends I only have 1 Rolex and that actually is handed down to me by my late dad. It is a vintage Rolex precision date manual wind. Till today, I don't have my own Rolex yet ie a modern Rolex. I like the robustness of the ceramic bezels on the GMT (esp the Batman) and also the Submariners. But
