Description: For sale is a boxed, near-mint example of an NCC 505, the last of the NCC models issued by Rado beginning in 1970. This reference was introduced in 1973 (when Rado switched from 5-digit numbers to longer ones) and is one of 15,000 examples made in this style from 1970-1978. According to anecdotal evidence and " target="_new">a period advertisement from Japan, NCC stands for New Conception Construction*--a new secure method of encasing the movement and dial which provides both shock resistance and protection from the elements (see information about Rado'> www.equationoftime.com .php?p=154137">Rado Patent GB1295347.

The NCC models were known for having large cases, unusual shapes, and often bold color. This example features a case whose rounded sides and straight top/bottom edges are juxtaposed with a dial whose edges feature the same pattern rotated 90 degrees. The effect is an angular watch that benefits from the softness of a few mild curves; a subtle TV-screen effect is achieved. This watch has a metallic blue dial with thick markers appearing to extend from the rehaut. The various layers, accentuate the depth of the watch which is substantial though, with the flat sapphire crystal and bezel, does not make the overall size of the watch overly cumbersome.

Condition of the watch is excellent. Case edges are crisp, bracelet is like new, the only indications of the true age of this watch are some minor discoloration on the dial edges and the rehaut. The movement is keeping excellent time; quick-set day/date are working correctly. Sevice history is unknown, but no problems are apparent. Condition of the box (the "Years Ahead" pyramid type) is very good. More photos will be provided upon request.

Price: $550 plus shipping. Paypal, money order or certified check are accepted. Please e-mail with any questions you may have. Please note that the case, dial and movement of this watch are completely original-this has not been pieced together from parts.

Rado DiaStar Original Skeleton
Visited local Rado boutique to see DiaStar Skeleton, intrigued by unique look. Unexpectedly liked it, became happy owner. Square faceted crystal adds personality. Fans of Rado or DiaStar?

Something not so common to start the weekend.
A watch that I like to wear a lot : the Rado "True Square". Full ceramic case and bracelet and so well executed : everything is soft and touches like a pebble . Rado certainly knows how to do ceramics! And one of the most comfortable watches I own !! Best, Gerard
