Description

I bought this watch at a Christie's Auction in London in November 1996. It was lot 268 and the description from Christie's was as follows: "Patek Philippe. A gentleman's gold water-resistant wristwatch Signed Patek Philippe, Ref. 2533, movement No. 704106, 1950s The nickel plated movement jewelled to the centre, the bimetallic balance with micrometer regulation under separate dust cover, the matt silvered dial with raised gold baton numerals, gold hands and blued steel sweep centre seconds, in circular case with downturned lugs and screwed back numbered 681258, with maker's black leather strap and gold buckle, case, dial and movement signed 34 mm. diam." It has sat in my drawer since the day I picked it up and the time has come to move it on. I cannot vouch for the workings of the watch as it has not been to a watchmaker since I bought it in 1996. I paid GBP 5,646 for it (and can supply the invoice) and I would sell it for GBP 6,000 plus any postage and insurance costs. The watch is located in the UK.

The 3970 is even better on smaller wrists
Having owned the Patek Philippe 3970 for a year, it became a favorite alongside the 5270P salmon. Despite missing the platinum 3970, the watch's unique appeal and understated elegance are valued over popular models like Nautiluses and Aquanauts.

comment A rare one indeed! Perhaps a better photographer might have disguised it a little better!
