Description

I am interesting in finding a Reference 1518. Condition must be 90% or better. I.e. sharp case, great unmolested dial and functioning movement. I am only interested in serial matching pieces that can be verified by Patek Geneva.

I will of course require serious references. I can offer very solid references aswell.

Price wise I am looking to spend in the range of what they sell for at auction minus the commission paid to the auction house. Serious cash buyer.

I am in europe - but can pick up worldwide.

Cheers

Morgan

📖 About This Reference

The Patek Philippe Reference 1518 holds a significant place in horological history as the world's first perpetual calendar chronograph produced in a series. Introduced in 1941, it established a foundational complication for the brand, preceding other notable perpetual calendar chronographs such as the 2499 and 3970. This reference is recognized for its pioneering role in combining these two complex mechanisms in a wristwatch. This reference was primarily offered in yellow gold, with a limited number produced in rose gold and an even smaller quantity in stainless steel. The case typically measures 35mm in diameter, housing the manual-winding caliber 13''' Q. The movement features a column-wheel chronograph mechanism integrated with the perpetual calendar complication. The dial often presents with applied Arabic numerals or bâton indexes, and a tachymeter scale on the outer periphery. For collectors, the 1518 represents a landmark Patek Philippe reference, highly sought after for its historical importance and rarity, particularly examples in alternative metals. Its design language and technical sophistication set a precedent for subsequent perpetual calendar chronograph models, making it a cornerstone for understanding the evolution of this complication within the brand's catalog.

Collector Discussions

Phillips is auctioning a 1518 in steel that they sold 9 years ago (for all the money in the world)
Patek Philippe 1518 steel wristwatch, setting records, inspires comps like 5004. Dealer soliciting 20 million USD for another. Auction determines fair price. Non-gem references could be bought with high estimate.

Patek Philippe ref. 5270J-001
The Patek Philippe ref. 5270J-001 impresses with refined design and feel, particularly in yellow gold with frosted chronograph hands. The in-house caliber CH 29-535 PS Q, though lacking a Lemania lineage, showcases elegance and functionality.

Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Chronograph ref. 5020 & 5021
Patek Philippe's rare ref. 5020 perpetual calendar chronograph was produced in limited quantities (200-250) with various dial styles and metals. Lemania-based caliber 27-70 Q movement with Breguet hands, unique Michael S. Ovitz pieces, and gem-set ref. 5021. Highly valued for design and exclusivity.

My Three Favorite VINTAGE Pateks of all time!
Inspired by Sham’s delightful post of his 3 favorite Pateks of all time, which are from the modern era, I thought it might be fun to initiate a corollary post limited to strictly vintage. For purposes of this discussion I am thinking of vintage as pre 1986. I.e. before the 3940 and 3970. I personall

The inspiration for the modern Patek Philippe.....DNA is everything
When we look at new models released by Patek Philippe, more often than not the inspiration for the new model comes from a prior reference. From my perspective, to really understand a modern watch one needs to see how it evolved. Take, for example, the 5070 chronograph. When I was at the museum a cou

Patek Philippe 5970 - "cult status"
The most recent edition of the Patek Philippe magazine (Volume IV, Number 3) provided a fascinating article about the Reference 5970. The article described the 5970 as a watch with “cult status” representing the ‘quintessence of complicated watchmaking at Patek Philippe.” That is high praise indeed.
