JLC reference 5551 - Calibre 954Q
Battery adapter MR50 for Renata 357 (SR44W) 1.50V
The mechanical gear train of the movement has been serviced (washed and oiled) by watchmaker.
The quartz stepper motor ticks normally, aft end turns (under back cap) but internally does not relay movement to the front and first gear.
Size of oval 160 x 190 mm, clock face silvered and brushed, hands polished silver and raised JLC silver logo. Frame in blue color enamel. The whole case is silvered brass.
JLC ref. 5551, cal. 954Q (quartz movement), serial number 1712589.
Clock back housing has; h and m adjustment, on-off switch (I=on, 0=off), threaded battery cover. The stepper motor back cap is also seen (removable for inspection).
The quartz clock calibre is high end of its time in 1974. Made by PORTESCAP (Imhof purchased the rights later). Stepper motor made by SOCREM. In addition to JLC the clock calibre was used by Piaget, Ulysse Nardin and Imhof in their table clocks.
The modern battery adapter MR50 uses the Renata 357 (SR44W) 1.50V silveroxide watch battery. The adapter reduces voltage to the lower level (1.35V) as the original 70's MR50 mercury battery.
There are some darkened smudges in the silvered dial (can be seen at lower rim between 5 and 7 and also at 11).
The cross brushed silvered surface fortunately hides these effectively from sight.
Observe ! - The clock is ticking but the hands are not moving - sold as not working
