Description

Jaeger LeCoultre 'Art Deco' 18k rose gold watch, with 822 movement. 26 mm x 42mm. Works well, keeps good time. Comes with a JLC box, but I do not have the papers. I believe, given the serial number (777) that it dates to about 1998. The obverse of this beautiful watch is simple and classically elegant, with a silver grey guilloche dial. The reverse is something else! A real surprise, the gilded and skeletonized reverse is a secret treasure. The watch is iconic, and has quite a following. There are only about 900 in existence. You can see excellent photos of it, along with a much better description, on Steve G's site (type 'Steve G watchpad' into google and you will find it.) This is from his site: "The Art Deco is a basic three-hand watch using JLC's now-midsized 26x42mm GT case. This model is now discontinued, but was produced with white gold as well as the present pink gold case, both with pink-plated movement. From the front, this is among the simplest and most traditional of Reversos. Sword hands, matching hour markers and a rectangular small-seconds dial dominate the face, along with a lovely circle of guilloche. The crown is partially recessed from the front view, and really there are just the 2 colors, lustrous pink gold and various shades of gray." And talking about the skeletonized reverse, he says: "This is the main event, a view available from no other watch! In shocking contrast with the dial, the reverse is a riot of color and shape, sinuous, barleycorn-engraved pink-gold bridges shot through with deep blue screws, hot-purple rubies and brass and steel mechanicals."
