Description

This manual wind Split-second chronograph Ref. 3712-02 combines the elegance of a nicely arranged dial with the technical mastery of a chronograph with split-second module. It has a diameter of 41 mm and with its domed sapphire crystal has a height of 12.3 mm. The manual wind movement 76240 is based on the ETA/Valjoux 7760 which originally has 18 jewels and is a 3-register chronograph movement but IWC has modified it to become a 31 jewels and chronograph with two counters which are nicely arranged at 12 (30-minute chronograph counter) and 6 o'clock (subsidiary seconds instead of chronograph 12-hour). It has a power reserve of 48 hours and pulsates 28,800 times an hour. The split-second push piece at 10 o'clock. The real beauty of this time piece, apart from the modified movement, lies in its elegant dial. It is light champagne-colored and creates a sharp contrast to the case and hands; hands for hours, minutes and continuous seconds are pink gold-plated. This makes it easy to distinguish between normal and stopwatch times and the Arabic numeral hour markers are embossed. Watch is accompanied by an IWC servicing certificate. At a recent international auction, a similar stainless steel IWC Portuguese Split-second chronograph was sold for around US$10,000 (before the 25% commission), but I am now offering mine for US$6000 only as I am trying to reduce the size of my collection as quickly as possible. Interested buyers may email me for more scans or questions. I accept bank wire transfer and will ship worldwide. I am based in Hong Kong and Singapore, hence if the buyer is located in either of these places, a face-to-face deal may be arranged.

Are there any significant differences between the 2 IWC Portugieser discontinued models below?? IW371445: (pic below of black strap) IW371401: (pic below of brown strap) IW371401 has a tang buckle vs folding clasp on IW371445, and the IW371401's case is 0.1 mm larger. Are there any other differences

In praise of the 3706
Nothing deep to offer here, I just wanted to toss in a little post in praise of the original Fliegerchronograph, which is in a sense my favorite watch in my collection. It's not the most valuable watch I own, by a long shot, and it certainly has less 'horological value' than many others--indeed than
