Doxa Jumping-seconds

This is a very rare and difficult to find but in perfect condition 1950s vintage jumping-seconds men’s wristwatch. Jumping-seconds is defined in a patent application as “a device for the step-by-step advance of the seconds-hand driven by the movement”. In an ordinary movement, beating at 18,000 vph or five times a second, a small additional escapement release the seconds-hand after every second, like the seconds-hand of a quartz watch. Only 4 watch houses in the world ever made jumping-seconds watches, namely Rolex (i.e. Rolex True-beat), Omega, Doxa and Werba and only a very limited quantity were produced by each house. In a recent auction, a Rolex True-beat was sold for over US$40,000. For Omega, only 17 pieces were produced. The Doxa Jumping-seconds I am selling here circa 1950s and is fitted with a manually-wound Caliber 116, 11.5”’, whose features include 21 jewels, flat spring, anti-magnetic, etc. Watch was bought from a master watch maker in Hong Kong who got it from an old time collector. Watch is in an excellent condition. Dial and movement signed. Dial, case, hands, crown are all original. It keeps accurate time.
