Sound Box for repeater watches.



Give your repeater watche(s) a treat with this custom made sound box.
This delicate box is for lovers of striking watches (minute or quarter repeaters, grande sonnerie, ...). It was built in Corsica by a professional violin maker who is specialized in ancient music instruments, following my precise specifications, and after several tests to make the best possible sound box for repeater watches.







What I wanted for my repeater watches :

- A box that would amplify the sound of the watch, for the pleasure of the ears
- A selection of beautiful woods, for the pleasure of the eyes
- A practical box that could also be used to store 2-3 watches
- A small size, so that it could easily be stored away or taken in a luggage when traveling

The most complex part was point 2. Several tests were done, and the best result was obtained when some preasure was applied on the watch against the box. We therefore thought of adding a wooden piece that would press the watch on the box. The watch is slided under this piece. A 10 mm thivk watch can easily slide under.

The results are impressive (see the videos). The sound of the repeater is heavily amplified. You will rediscover your watches ! And it will allow your friends to listen at the watches without having to hold them next to their ears.

4 different woods are used in this box :
- Chestnut for the sides of the outer box, and the drawer
- Spruce for the top of the box (the "sounding board", as it's called in violins)
- Rosewood for the tab, for it's flexibility
- Cypress for the bottom of the box
- Bone for the drawer's button (yes, I know, bone is not a wood).

These woods are the same as the one used for the Ces bois sont les mêmes que ceux utilisés pour les musical instruments. They are top quality, and have been drying for several years. These woods are specifically for violin makers.

The box is then polished to perfect its aesthetics.

Size of the box : 16 x 8.5 x 8 cm. (6.3 x 3.3 x 3 1 inches)
Inner size of the drawer : 14 x 7 x 5 cm (5.5 x 2.7 x 2 inches)
Dimensions de la languette : 16 x 3 x 0.3 cm (6.3 x 1.2 x 0.1 inches)
